I am here for 7 more weeks and I am wanting to get into a Buddhism course. Are there any temples in the North of Thailand where travellers can stay and study the Buddhist Religion? Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Regards,

Hello Brain 😊

Here is one listed in the Lonely Planet.
You can stay at Wat Suanmok, in Chalya(60 KM from Surat Thani). The monks hold retreats for the first 10 days of every month. You have to register in advance. It costs a couple of hundred Bahts per day which includes meals. It is a 10 day programe so longer or shorter is not an option.

I dont know if there is a website. If so, maybe somebody reading this will provide it.

There are a few temples in Chiangmai which offer a Buddhist retreat for westerners who want to find out about Buddhism. The most well-known is held at Wat U-Mong

Thanks guys I wil look into it!

I had heard about Suanmok, but someone told me it's mainly just meditation and the rest is silence. I'm looking for something a bit more engaged where I can learn about the Philosophy behind Buddhism as well as do a bit of Mediation...

Actually I heard there was somewhere up north that you could ordain as a Novice for short periods which interests me as well. Do you guys know anything about that?

Thanks again for your kindness... Reply to this

A friend of mine stayed in a temple in Fang (near Chiang Mai) through a not-for profit organization called the bloodfoundation.org. They arranged everything for her including the English speaking Dhamma teacher ... Might be one to have a look at. Reply to this
