Hi

I am travelling to Asia in January 2009, for 1 year, and would appreciate any and all advice.

--Flight is Toronto-London-Bangkok
Landing in Thailand (Bangkok)
--3 weeks southern Thailand
--3 weeks Northern Thailand
Enter Laos
--2 Weeks in Laos
Enter Cambodia on river boat via Mekong
--2 weeks Cambodia
Enter Vietnam (south)
--1 month to get to Northern Vietnam
Access China (understand Visa's are attainable in Hong Kong?)
--2 Months in China
--(Southern/Central, North-east, Tibet)
Enter Nepal via Tibet (advice?)
--3 weeks Nepal
Enter India
--4 Months India
--(First the North, working West, then South)
--Kolkatta - Beijing flight (on Chinese transit visa)
End
--Trans-Mongolian Express, Beijing-Moscow 10 days

So thanks in advance to any advice anyone can give me, especially on Visas, border crossing (Laos-Cambodia-Vietnam, China-Tibet-Nepal-India), and India and China in general!

Hello Adam 😊

If I was doing that trip I would invest in SE Asia on a Shoestring by Lonely Planet because it covers 4 of the countries you want to go to in one book.

why not try checking out the different islands and off-the-beaten road spots in the Philippines... you may spend a month or two to cover the major spots.. :D Reply to this

hahaha.. hope you do have a great time here when you do decide to drop by...

I'd recommend the of the beaten locations of Banaue, Sagada, Puerto Princesa, Bohol and even Batanes island... Boracay is the most famous beach spot for tourists due to its sugary soft white beach... And English is widely understood across the archipelago..

Beijing is a must when you do trip to China. Beijing is the capital o China has a history over 1000 years and the place the 2008 Olympic games took place. Many things you can see: Great wall, Ming tomb,Forbidden city,Summer plce,Temple of Heaven and at the same time you can also have the chance to try the delicious food of China. For the first time visit, i recommend you to take a classicial travel route like :Beijing-Xi'an-Guilin-Suzhou-Hangzhou-Shanghai-Hongkong. Reply to this
