Hi guys,
I've just bought myself some Keen trekking sandles with a rubber toe part for my month long trip round thailand and northern Laos. I'm hoping to do the Gibbon experience amongst other things and was wonder whether these would be good enough. Has anyone done similar and what did you wear?
Thanks in advance
Tone
Reply to this Hi there, I did some trekking in laos, we were going to do the Gibbon experience but it was booked up a week or so before so we didnt have time. But we did some trekking anyway with a smaller company, and my friend bought some of these sandals you talk about from a local shop and they split completly within about 5 hours and he had to go bear foot the whole way, and you can imagine the trouble when it rains etc. So if I was you I would go for some walking books personally, or some high top trainers will do fine too.
Let me know if this helps.
Luke
Reply to this I don't care for sandals, I just don't like my toes and feet so exposed. I think you can do nicely with a simple hiking shoe or low top boot. If you are in Asia and you have large feet - like I have - size 12 or larger - you may have a hard time finding a replacement right away. I would bring a spare pair of shoes with you even if they are cheapies. This way you will have a replacement if needed and a dry pair to wear while your "good and expensive" shoes are drying out.
Good luck.
Reply to this I agree completely with sir Halberd. It's dangerous to wear sandals. And they look bad 😊
Reply to this Hi, we did the Gibbon Experience and loved it, would highly recommend it but book up a couple of weeks in advance as it gets full quickly. Not sure when you'll be there but we were in this area in rainy season; it was pretty muddy in places and there were hundreds of leeches about! Maybe this will affect your decision on footwear, it certainly did mine! We wore hiking shoes and these were fine for the hiking that we did in Laos...
Have a great trip!
