hey,we heading to v nam for the 1st time and was wondering what sort of amount to budget per couple.we want to back pack it and acc isnt that important as long as its safe and ther is a bed.we do how ever like a drink.local we like our food but wld rather stay away from street vendors.we really are looking forward to v nam and any tips on any thing will be great.we are going for as long as we can handle it as we have herd alot of horror storys we have £40 per couple per day.this isnt to include travel.does any one know what it cost from koh chang to ho chi min??we are getting the lonely planet shoe string edition for xmas but wld love ant tips in the mean time.many thanks dudes.... 40 pounds a day is ok, you should be able to afford to do most things on that kind of budget.

In the big cities you can get an ok hotel for 15USD a night, give or take a dollar or two. In the smaller cities it is even cheaper, just walk around a bit and ask a few hotels about price and ask to see the room first too.

Food from the street venders if fine, you don't need to avoid it, it costs abour 15,000 Dong and I eat it everyday.

Beer at the foreign bars can be quite expensive , but you can get little jugs of beer at the little Bia Hoi bars on the street for about 3,000Dong, it is quite fun sitting of the footpath on the little seats they give and watching things go by, its cheap and popular with foreigners as well.
