I gather internet access is usually available in most places, is that right? Does that mean I should be taking my own laptop or are computers/laptops also available?

Yes, internet is available in most places. No need to take your laptop as computers are available at the internet places too. I am not so sure laptops would be available to use but stationery computers are.

Reply to this My opinion is that you should bring your own laptop only if you plan to stay for an extended period of time and will have access to a secure place where you can store it while out and about. Internet cafes are available almost anywhere, including many rural areas so those should suffice. In general, theft is a bigger issue than internet access here.
Reply to this I agree w/ OJ. Access will not be an issue unless you are off the tourist track and most people aren't. I was thinking of taking one of the "new" small ones but I don't want the responsibility of having to watch it like we do my wife's camera.
I guess it will depend on whether you can live w/o it while you travel.
