visiting HK for the first time and looking for sights to see, places to eat, and a decent hotel that won't break the budget. i've been searching online but have had no luck. Appreciate any help anyone can give.

thanks! Reply to this

Well how much is in your budget for a hotel? My budget and your budget could be $50 apart!

Check out the Panda Hotel, I used it a few years ago. Not right in the more touristy area but close to the MRT. (I paid around 33% of the listed price when I got the booking in Bangkok for midweek.)

There are some hostels too!

There is the YMCA too!

I know some people who have stayed at YMCA with no complaints (however, they were not travelling with children).

For sights or places to eat, I highly recommend this website: http://www.citylifehk.com/citylife/eng/index.jsp

The food you must try in Hong Kong is dim sum... Reply to this

I think for the Panda that is the regular price unless they have a special promotion. I paid around $32-33 but I got the booking off season from a travel agency in Bangkok.

You don't mention how much you want to pay per night. If you want cheaper hotels in a major city in Asia probably Bangkok is the place to go to! The YMCA might be okay and a reasonable rate. Hong Kong is not cheap.

I like hotels with buffet breakfasts, don't think you will get one at the Y. I ended up eating lots of boiled pork and steamed rice from street vendors. I bought some bread from supermarkets and made sandwiches. McDonalds is very reasonable and they are easy to find.

Accommodation in Hong Kong is generally more expensive than most of other Chinese cities. Most of the cheap lodgings are located in remote areas of New Territories.
Heere is a list of Hong Kong budget hotels, please follow the link below:

thank you all for your replies. my working budget is $50 - $80/nite for accommodations for 4 people. that's pretty low, i know. but we just want a clean, safe place to sleep so we can sight see, eat and shop 😊

thanks again for the tips!

Hey, you can try hotels like Mexan Harbour, Dorsett Seaview, or Harbour Plaza these hotels are of lower budget. They are located nearer to city areas too, when theres convenient MTR. To book hotels, you might wna check out http://www.namho.com.sg All the best (: Reply to this
