Hi Joe,
Best itinerary for this trip can be 3 days-2nites in South Vietnam based in Saigon, then 5days in North Vietnam based in Hanoi and travel to fascinating Sapa, and Halong bay.
My email: I am more happy if you need more information

My top pick in Vietnam: Sapa. Saigon is good for a couple of days. Hanoi is (in my opinion) not worth spending time in (even central and southern Vietnamese hate people from Hanoi). But it's worth visiting the war museum to get the Vietnamese perspective on the American War. Sapa is a great three day trip. Reply to this

Hi Peter,
When was your last time in Vietnam?

Hi travel holic. I really was in Hanoi for about a week. I really didn't like the people there. And as I said, that's just my personal opinion. Others seem to like it for some reason. Reply to this

You just have about 9 days in Vietnam, so you should choose the South or North or South with a bit of Centre.

Most people prefer the North over the South, because it's more scenic. Go to Hanoi, book a 2d/1n trip to Halong bay, on the day comming back from the bay you take night train to Lao Cai (Sapa) for 2d/1n trekking to see hill tribe people in their traditional clothes, the rice terraces and beautiful mountain scenery. Hanoi deserves at least 2 full days. If you have more time, do a side day trip to Ninh Binh ( beutiful rice fields with so many karst formations) or Parfume pagoda ( the stream leading to the pogoda is very scenic, the pagoda is so so in a huge cave).

You can go to Saigon, have 2d/1n or 3d/2n (better) Mekong Delta tour including homestay with Sinh Cafe. Saigon deserves 2 days for museums, walking tour, Cu Chi tunnel, etc. Then go to Mui Ne or Nha Trang with Da Lat in a loop back to Sai Gon.

Don't try to cover too much. VN is a country to travel slowly in order to enjoy the most.

Have a nice trip! Reply to this
