Hi...myself and my boyfriend will be flying to Bangkok in June and travellling around for approx 6 weeks. We were thinking of spending a week or two in Cambodia and Vietnam and then the rest of the time in Thailand. Would anyone suggest heading to Laos also?

I would love if anyone could offer some suggestions of what to do over there, how to do it (travelling by train, plane etc), where to go etc.
Ideally we would like to have a half adventure holiday (trekking and other activities), half relaxation (Nice beaches, scenery etc)
If you have any suggestions please let me know,,,its our visit time doing this kind of holiday.
Thanks.

Hi Katie,

I think 6 weeks time is long enough for two of you cover 4 countries in this area.

Hello Rosie,

Well South East Asia, if you will spend 1 year wont be enough, hehe 😊
So, let's see, u got 6 weeks to travel? Take 10 days out of your 6 weeks trip, so you got another 32 days left. Let's plan for your 1 month trip without Thailand.

Since you want a sugestion's and opinion's, I would highly recommend:

LAOS

Luang Perbang (Recommended): 3 - 4 nights will be enough here. The main attaraction's are the waterfall plus it's nice quite place. i cant really remmber the names, but if iam not mistaken it's Tad Sae Waterfall & kwang Si Waterfall.

VanVeing (Recommended):2 nights wil be enough. The most important thing here to do, is the Tubing (you can do Kayaking if you like to) in the mekong river.

Ventinet: Few hours is enough. There is the Golden Temple there.

South of Laos:You go to the 4000 Islands. You will be around 10 KM (If iam not mistaken to enter Cambodia through the boat but some tourist i met they said they had a hard time, so if you manage to find a group will be better). There is other waterfalls in the Bolevean Pelatu like Tad Fan, and Tad lo, but I think you can skip it. Chempasak was nice, you can check out the Temple, but if u dont have much time, you can see much better tempels in Siep Riep Cambodia.

Remark: If you are accessing Laos from Chang mai, then add another 2 nights for the slow boat.

Cambodia:

Siem Riep (Recommended): 3 - 5 nights to check out the Angkor wat temple. The main temple there is the Angkor Wat, if you are not intreted to see other temples, then for sure 3 days will be enough for you. Actually you can cover few Temples in 3 days.

Phnom Phen (Recommended): 2 nights will be enough, stay in the Lake side. check the S-21, skulls field, king Palace, Temple above the Hill, the market, and etc.

South of Cambodia: I was in Sihanouk Ville, Lovely Beaches. you can be here for a couple of nights and head to Vietnam. Remmber you can relax in lovely beaches in Thailand, but if you have time then stay here as well.

Now, if you will only do the "Recommended" area's, that's mean you will need 8 days in Laos and 8 days in Cambodia. You have left another 16 days to decide more and 10 days in a side for Thailand.

Thailand

Now the 10 days you have left will be for Thailnd. I would suggest to keep the Beaches and relaxation till the end of your trip and defentlley that will be:

1) South Thailand: Phuket and the lovely small islands around phuket.
2) South East: Koh sumi & Koh penyan (check the spelling).

Advice If you will keep Thailand to the end as I suggested, then Start from Hanoi and travel around Vietnam, all the way south and enter Cambodia, get out from Siem Riep ( I would advise you to fly out of Siem riep and not to take the bus as the road in terrible, try to ask more tourist about this and gather some info). From Thailand, enter Ventinet (if you will skip the south of laos), all the way to Vang then Luang the exist to Chang mai and all the way to South of Thailand.

I have not been to Vietnam so I can't help much
I hope you didnt get too bored .. loool
Happy trip 😊 Reply to this
