Advice on were to stay on the island of Ko Phangan

Can anyone give me any tips or advise?
I'm travelling to Thailand in Jan/Feb 2009 and will be spending the last 5 nights on Ko Phangan, I will be there for the full moon party but I'm struggling with deciding where to stay.
Most guide books seem to say Haad Rin is the place to stay, but I wonder whether this will be a bit much and slightly over commercialised.
I like the sound of the west coast resorts, especially Haad Yao, but on the other hand I'm worried that this may be a bit isolated!!
I do want a bit of nightlife but dont really want it to be too rowdy, dont mean to sound so fussy !!
Also, how easy is it to travel around the island at night, and is Haad Yao a bit too far from the full moon party in Haad Rin? Reply to this

Avoid Haad Rin. Most guide books suggest it because if you want to be at the full moon party, you may as well be there. Great for one night.

Otherwise head to Haad Thien or any other beach within a short boatride of the full moon party. On the other hand, if the full moon party doesn't grab you, all of the northern beaches are pretty awesome. Reply to this

Had rin good place go to for full moon party or dancing on weekday, weekend If u stay for FMP period the hotels is required min 5 or 7 nights.

Resort for holiday, relexing i suggest Hansa Resort (Bantai Beach ) between where the full moon party is and the port - 10/15 minutes to either - it was perfect for relaxing away after the full moon party. I stay at here 3 nights and booking in advance at thebesthotelsthailand.com

travel around island u can rent Motor Bikes from shop near resort or in town (the price for rent per day i don't know)

Haad yao is far from FMP I'm not sure the resort in this here has boat service to had rin.

Thanks for your help, will probably stay in bantai and travel around the island in the day.
Does anyone know if it would be easy to get a taxi to and from Haad yao from Full Moon party? Reply to this

Haad Rin gets extremely crazy! Had friends stay at Bantai and they liked it quite a bit. You will be able to get a song thaew but expect prices to be higher at night! Reply to this
