Hi,
My wife and I will be traveling to New Delhi in March on a one way ticket. After our travels in India we\'ll be heading to our new home (either in Canada or Europe). Currently the prices for one way tickets from New Delhi are good - I\'m happy to pay them but I\'d love to have the flexibility to stay in India for another week or two if we feel like it. So, can anyone predict whether the prices in India in March will go up drastically from current one way flights out of New Delhi?
Thanks for any advice!
Reply to this I think you are legally required to have a ticket to leave India in order to enter. I think they usually dont ask you to prove you have one but there is always the possibility that they will.

Reply to this Hi,
Most airlines allow one change in the date for free or for a nominal charge - $10-20, plus the difference in fares between the old ticket and the new one. In case the prices do go down, you should be able to get back much of the difference by changing your travel date by a day or two. You can look this up when seeing the fare rules and conditions on the airline's website. This, plus Mel's point above mean you are in fact better off purchasing now and rebooking.
Reply to this I did not know this about entering india... where did you find out it is a legal requirement? I am going to India soon and only have a one way ticket to mumbai so far... would be grateful for information! Thanks!
Reply to this I just saw the information on the various internet forums. There is probably official information on the Indian consulate websites.

Reply to this Its always cheaper to buy return tickets with any airline. You might end up spending more if you buy one way. Plus always safe to have a return ticket in hand in case of an emergency.

Reply to this as far as i am aware you are not actually asked to show your travel details when applying for an India visa, though it may be asked for by immigration officials at the airport.

No you dont. In fact, the consulates recommend that you dont finalise your ticket buying until you have received your visa so you dont lose your ticket money if your visa application is refused.
Reply to this Mell is correct. It is possible to enter India on a one way ticket, i do it all the time and find that there is little or no difference in prices and allows me some flexibility when traveling.
