Hi guys,

Ive been in thailand for about 2 weeks, and have been to phuket and also now on phi phi island. I get a boat off of phi phi to krabi, and was gonna go to rai leh via some good advice from other travellers saying its worth it! But afterwards i have about 3 weeks left and have to fly out on the 25th september from bangkok and have nothing really planned, im quite an outdoorsy adventurous person and have had enough of sitting on beaches relaxing and need some good ideas for things to do!? Suggestions are very welcomed!

Thanks, Al

Chiang Mai, Chiang Mai, Chiang Mai!
It's in northen thailand. I went for a 5 day hike, into the golden triangle (with two of those days being spent whitewater rafting) It was absolutely unforgettable. has extra info on the region as to where to stay, and what else to do.
The ancient city of Ayutthaya is also definetly worth a visit (thats in central thailand) but unless you are a huge archaeology buff. i wouldnt spend more that a couple of days there. (But it DEFINETLY is a MUST SEE)

If you go to Chaing Mai - which you should!

Visit the elephant nature park

http://www.thaifocus.com/elephant/

I did a day trip there, you get to feed and bath the elephants and watch them play. t gets quite booked up so it's advisable to book. It is worth every penny.

The centre helps injured and abused elephants and they are never ridden but it was one of the most amazing expereinces of my life to interact with these wonderful creatures.

From Chaing Mai I also got a bus to Pai - it was a wicked hippy place but absolutely fanastic and cheap. There was such a cool vibe to the place.

A bit after-the-event, but Chiang Mai gets my vote too :-)

I only had about 4 days there when I went, could easily have stayed longer!

I did pretty typical trips - elephant riding, bamboo rafting, cooking school, night markets. Oh yeah, cheap Thai massages (one at the Women's Prison), way cheaper than Phuket. Reply to this

If you like to do something different there's a project where you can help to look after (feeding, showering/washing...) and learn to ride an elephant, working with its mahout. Its about 20km south of Pattaya & a couple of hours from Bangkok/suvanaphumi airport so maybe would be good to do before you left for home. The website is theelephantmahoutproject.com

I also back Chiang Mai and have heard fab things about Pai! Reply to this
