Suggested 3-week itineraries to include Thailand, Cambodia & Vietnam
15 years ago, August 19th 2008 No: 1 Msg: #46063
Please help!! My boyfriend and I are heading to Thailand for a 3 week holiday in November but are not sure which places we should try to visit. We are planning to travel down to Cambodia for a few days (killing fields and the temples) and also to Vietnam for a few days (possibly saigon and then flying to hanoi) but the majority of our time will hopefully be in Thailand. Ideally we will manage to spend a few days in Bangkok and also be able to visit a beach - any suggestions? Don't know whether to visit Chang Mai or Phuket? I would love to hear from people who have been to these countries and hear your ideas of where to go/best way to get the most out of our time. Reply to this

Hey there, all the places you have mentioned are great places to travel to I guess it just comes down to what you guys are into. I was in Phuket a couple years ago with my buddy and we both loved to drink and party and Phuket was great for that as the beach was good but not great and the night life was very lively, Phuket's also great for really old British men hooking up with the young locals too. So if you dont mind that sort of seedy stuff and like to lay on the beach all day and drink all night I would recommend Phuket. Chang Mai was a very unique city and definatley worth a visit especially if you guys are interested in doing any treks into the jungle or whitewater rafting as both those activities turned out awsome for me. As well its got a big night market which is a must see. I would recommend about 5 days in Chang Mai if you guys plan to do a trek. Reply to this

I think all depends on your priorities. The south of Thailand (two or three days on a beach) is not a bad idea as well. And in Vietnam I would prefer Halong Bay before the south part - but if you are a fan of the war history, then cu-chi etc. may be a good choice. I have quite a good experience with MapsGuides.com website, where are some itineraries (I am sure there are some for Thailand, but I am not sure if for Vietnam as well...) Petr Reply to this

Chiang Mai is absolutely gorgeous. I would recommend you book one of those trekking and whitewater rafting tours (definetly worth it!) The Karen tribe villages are also worth a visit. This article; deals with the highlights of chiangmai, i suppose you could compare it to the site's article on phuket (but just for the record, my preference is chiang mai..haha)
