I think I am going to cry. I am going on a volunteer trip to colva in goa but I had no idea this would be during monsoon season. Can anybody help ease my fear? Will my trip be beyond enjoyment? Will there be no chance to enjoy the beach at least some? Please HELP!
Reply to this I won't mind going to Goa in monsoon! It won't be raining 24x7... you will surely get a chance to enjoy the beach... I am not so familiar with Goa but in general west coast is not cold during monsoons. I went to Goa in summer once.. and it was too hot!
It will be really really beautiful right now.. very green... if you can't hit the beach.. there are plenty of other historic places in Goa that you must visit! In fact, this will be off-season and it will not be overcrowded.. even prices will be quite reasonable.. and you might have the beach to yourself ;-)..
I'd prefer that to the peak season!
Reply to this Thank you so much for your encouraging words. I feel at ease 😊 Now I am looking forward to my trip. Can you maybe tell me what cities in and around goa I can visit by train? Places for shopping, historic sites, and anything else I mught be missing in my agenda.
Thanks 😉
Reply to this I agree with Swar - you'll probably see the best of Goa as it won't be high season, therefore it won't be full of annoying westerners who don't respect they're in another country. Yep - it won't rain all day.
I would recommend a visit to Panjim (Panaji), the capital of Goa - it's a lovely, charming city, one of the most peaceful in India - it has a lot of colonial history. From Panjim you can take a trip to Old Goa which has some historical attractions (you can go there and back in a day).
In any case, you'll be in India! Nothing will ever be able to ruin that experience - a bit of rain? Who cares? 😊
Reply to this Goa is the smallest state of India. Buses or Taxis will be quite convenient mode of transport. It has been a long time since i've been there.. I remember renting a motorbike for a day to get around!
Goa is very different from other places in India... thanks to the Portuguese rule during 1500-1961! Even language won't be an issue at all!
As Debbie suggested, Panaji and Old Goa (Goa Vehla) should be on the list.. I remember visiting Margao also... I also remember some other places but can't recall the names (has been almost 8 years). I would suggest going through the TravelBlogs for goa!
Have fun in Goa! 😊
Reply to this hi nelda i'm going to goa this august
just wondering did you have a good time and how was the weather -did it rain all of the time?!
did you get any sunny beach weather?
was it really dead or were hostels, bars etc open and many people there?
any advice is much appreciated :0)
cheers!
Reply to this Well Joe I did not end up going to Goa after all. I ended up volunteering with an NGO in Delhi. If I went to Goa with the first company I would have ended up going by myself because there were no other people who signed up for the august trip.
If you already bought your ticket let me know how it works out, I'd like to know.
nelda 😊
Reply to this I would suggest going to Goa after the 15th of August, bcoz atleast some basic shacks and beach places open up by then. Its rains frequently each day and there are occasional heavy showers. Ideal time to be in Goa is between 15th October and 15th May, though towards summer, its hotter.
And also, north goa would have more activities than south goa.
