RTW tix vs. flights + train/bus travel
15 years ago, July 3rd 2008 No: 1 Msg: #40820
Im planning on heading through a few countries in Asia next March when I finish up here in Korea.
I've been planning on getting the RTW tix since at the end of it, I have to go back to Toronto, but I won't be returning to Seoul so I will be losing out on the final spot.
My route so far is Seoul - Thailand - (train to Cambodia - Vietnam - Malaysia) - Madras, India - Toronto.
If I got the RTW, I would fly to Malaysia I reckon, and maybe even the other few places since I feel like I won't be really using it up for what it's worth otherwise.

So what is the better, cheaper option? the cheapest with RTW that i can get is just under $3000 but I don't know exactly how cheap the flights within Asia are. I know to get back to Toronto alone it will cost me at least $1200 for a one way ticket from India.

Also, what are some good websites to book tickets for travelling within Asia on the cheap? The only one I know of is kayak.com.

Hi Ann

not entirely sure about the RTW tix, but in terms of flights within Asia, particularly BKK-KL-MAS (now Chennai), you can look at Tiger Airways, Air Asia & Air India Express. They sell some of the cheapest fares that i av ever come across. Google them for their websites.

In terms of accommodation, have a look at hotelscombined.com. This website compares rates from several different web sites that offer hotel bookings and then displays the cheapest.

Jet Airways can fly you from Chennai - Toronto. Have a look at their website for fares. A one way fare is usually about INR 36,000 (which is roughly $900)

Hope this helps.

Have you looked into the Cathay Pacific All Asia Pass? If you are departing Toronto it seems that your entire trip could be done for less than $2000.00. From your posting it wasn't quite clear whether you were in Asia or would be departing Canada for your Asia trip. Reply to this

I'm actually in Asia, so I will be departing from Seoul with my final destination being Toronto. Do you know if that would work with this pass at all? i have heard of it but I figured it was only valid for use within Asia, as in departing and arriving. Reply to this

Air Ticket from Thailand

You better buy your air ticket within Asia in Asia itself. Bangkok is served by most airlines, hence makes a good base to explore the neighbouring counties. I often go to Asia and make Bangkok my base. There are many palces to buy air ticket. You can check the fares before you leave. A good place to buy air ticket online from Thailand is in Bangkok. They will sendyour electronic ticket by email. Works fine, especially since some airlines in Southeast Asia (e.g. Air Lao, Myanmar Airlines) don't offer online booking.
