Pros and cons on travel route between Vietnam and Cambodia.

I'm going to SEA again in autumn and this time I'm spending nearly 6 weeks visiting Vietnam and Cambodia. Since I'm flying in to Bangkok to start the trip I plan to spend the first couple of days getting visas etc., then fly to Hanoi and then travel down through Vietnam and into Cambodia from where I plan to end my trip. For those of you that have already done this, are there any preferences which way to travel? Should I see Cambodia first and then go through Vietnam and finish in Hanoi and then fly back to BKK from there? Any suggestions and thoughts on this would be really appreciated.

I went from Vietnam to Cambodia - I'm sure either way is fine, but we travelled down from Hanoi to Hue (overnight train); to Hoi An (by bus) to Ho Chi Minh city (by air from Danang) and then got a bus to Phnom Penh - the bus company sorted out the visas for us at the border, you just hand in your passports, go through the control, and then get back on the bus and wait till the visas are done and handed back - it was pretty easy. We went from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap and then got a car (there's a bus too, but as there was 5 of us, it was cheap enough to get a taxi) up to the Thai border, then got a bus back up to Bangkok. It was all fine.
I noticed from your profile you say you're going to Rajasthan this year - I'm jealous! I spent 3 weeks there during my 6 month travels in India - it's a beautiful state with so much to see - I especially loved Jodhpur. Make sure you go to the Lassi shop in Jodhpur market which sells just Makhiana (saffron) lassis - they're great!
Hope you have great travels 😊 Reply to this

Hi there Debtravel, thank you for that. Yes I'm pretty sure it's going to be a nice route that I have planned and it sounds like there are plenty of possibilities for transportation etc. I need to update my profile as I went to India last autumn and had an amazing time. I loved it all from the first to the last day.

Thank you for your tips and advice and happy travels to you too. Reply to this

I have travelled quite a bit in Vietnam, and if you wanna travel by motorbike with an easy-rider guide, they will no doubt pick you up from the Cambodian border to do a tour if you wanted, or they start in Saigon/Dalat etc, then I would highly recommend it as a great way to see the country from a different perspective. The guys I went with were so knowledgeable about their country that I learned so much. The ones I I went with were www.easy-riders.net so worth looking at.

Anyway, cheers,

oldham
