I will be travelling to Japan the last week of July and have 7 days to explore the country.
I\'m going to get the rail pass and am trying to plan out my route now.
What are some places that I just should not miss (of course, Tokyo and Kyoto are already on the list)?
I\'m not going to go further north than Tokyo, mainly the mid and southern islands. I also really want to go to the real south island where there are beaches time permitting though.
Are travel times between the cities going to take up a chunk of my time? I\'m also hoping I can get overnight trains to save on accomodation but am not sure yet if these are easy to come by or not.
