I was in Piura from Friday through Sunday. I hung out with Zandi and her Peace Corps friends. They had a barbecue, I ate cow heart, it wasn´t bad. That town was laid back. I didn´t do much... I watched a movie, ate some food, hung out... enjoyable. Last night I came to Trujillo... the biggest town in northern Peru. It seems like a good place, they´ve got ruins and shit. I´ve been feeling kind of sick... (rhymes with ¨craveller´s biahrea¨) so I´m taking it easy today... I just tried to upload my pictures... but the computer erased them all... it is pretty disappointing because I had a picture of some hardcore Lima graffiti, it repped ¨Harry Potter.¨ Oh the laughs we could have had. ... read more

Greetings Peeps, i decided to write one more before i set off to Antarctica. Today I will set for the last frontier in about 3 hours. I am getting very excited as I have heard som good stuff about the cruise. As for Ushuaia, well i am in a hostel and I cannot find the question mark or the apostrophe on the keyboard....and that is why you will see this shakespearian english along with no questions. Ushuaia is a small town but in a beautiful setting. I took some pictures by the harbour, however, I will not be downloading any right now cause the hostel does not have the equipment for it. I will do it in town when I get back. The town is very touristy and I have to gladly adjust to the latino ... read more

We finally left Patagonia and felt like we were starting on the next stage of our adventure. And it shall be called the "Hot City" stage. Mendoza was a pleasant enough city, but most importantly we were in beds again. After spending half of our time in Patagonia camping we were saying goodbye to our tent, and hello to space and new clothes. That was the plan anyhow, but the Argentinian post office had other ideas. We tried to post the tent in Bariloche first, and after a mere hour of queing were told that we couldn't post it on that day; only packages of less than 2kgs were allowed. We checked when we could post and if it was the same for the whole country and were assured it was possible the next day. Our ... read more

I can't believe I spent over 2 months in Columbia, and every day was worth it but my initial flight date came and went on February 2nd. I was able to extend the flight to the maximum 180 days but I wish now I could stay longer, as there is so much to see and do, and at the rate that I move I know I will miss a lot of things that I want to see. Realising that I have just over 2 months left I made a tough decision and decided cut out Ecuador and booked a flight to Lima Peru on the 29th from Bogota. After one last memorable weekend with some friends in the small city of Yopal 6 hours outside of Bogota I headed back to the capital to catch ... read more

Hello all, Well first of all I would like to say goodbye to a wonderful friend of mine, Cindy Arrens, who recently passed from a long but well fought battle with cancer. She will be missed by everyone who was fortunate enought to have met her, myself being, in no way, an exception to that. Goodbye Cindy, we will all miss you very much. As for me I have finally left Quito for good after a sad goodbye with the friends from my hostel. It sure was a great month but it is good to be on the road again. I am travelling with a British friend, Tessa, although our plans have changed a little bit. Right now I am in Banos, a touristy little town about an hour from Rio Bamba (my original destination) to ... read more

I can bearly believe it, nor can I contain my excitement. I am so thrilled about it. Lo is very excited too, we cant sleep, we cant eat!! We are leaving on Monday on a swanky 13 day cruise on The Marco Polo. The best bit about it too is it is so cheap we paid $1000US, and it should be $5000!! There are lots of people from our hostel going and apparently a total of 200 backpackers on board - so should be fun (lower the average age a little). Feel a bit bad for the people who booked early, not only have they paid loads more, they will not be expecting 200 people to arrive with backpacks and combats! I will be on the cruise for my birthday too, (17th Feb) which is brilliant! ... read more

I´ve made it. I still feel a little numb, like this is all happening in a dream, or at least happening to someone else. Shed the inevitable tears as I said good bye to my Mum and sister at the departures gate, and again speaking to Andy as I neared the Boarding gate, and then yet again when I read the lovely cards that my family had sent with me. Not bad going really. Now the jet lag is kicking in, but I´m determined to stay awake until after supper. I arrived in Madrid with only 40mins to transfer, as we spent at least an hour on the plane sitting outside the terminal at Heathrow! The flights were ok, although the entertainment (Oliver Twist and Zorro), and the food ( Iberia specials of tinned cold mushrooms, ... read more

Hi everyone!! Well we finally made it to Bariloche after a 20 hour bus ride... the seats were great and 'semi camas' (semi beds) so we were pretty comfortable... unfortunatly the water tank for the bathroo0m was above us and started to leak (don't worry - clean water) so we had to rig up a holder using a plastic sandwich container and dental floss. We didn't manage to sleep much despite the great seats (on the top floor with a great view) because I guess they forgot to turn off out air conditioner and it was about 4 degrees by our seats. All we had to warm us up with here soggy towels and sweaters! But we made it here and met up with Steph our friend from Canada who is doing an exchange to Chile, ... read more

South America » Argentina » Buenos Aires » Buenos Aires February 5th 2006

One of the great urban gems in the world is undoubtedly the Buenos Aires of today. It’s a city of over 10 million people that boasts some of the best fashion, night life, beef and soccer traditions in the world along with a mix of the problems facing South America. The city of Buenos Aires is clearly the cosmopolitan capital of South America and contains a well-educated “porteno” (local BA people) population that don’t let normal hours constrain their days and nights. As my first destination, I was excited and wasn’t quite sure what to expect.. but it’s a place I’ve quickly plugged into and could easily reside at some point. I spent my first few days and weeks here getting acquainted with the city, taking long walks, stopping for coffees, practicing Spanish, trying to learn ... read more
