3rd Dec 2010 We arrived back in Haunchaco and after a supper of steaming hot tamales from a street vender we decided to go fishing on an impressive victorian style pier that divided the town. The boys bought little squares of wood with fishing line, weights and hooks attached and we settled on the pier, Dustin was the man of the moment as he caught 2 small fish the first of which he threw bad, the second was rescued temporally by a small dirty little boy named Franco who wanted it to take home to eat, he instructed the lads on how to hook the clam bait on the hooks and watched bemused as the boys fumbled with their lines. Dustin caught the 2 fish, Martin scored zero and John caught a rock, indeed he remarked ... read more

1st Dec 2010 We caught a late night bus to Trujillo with El Dorado, fist class tickets for the trip are 45 soles from the El Dorado office as oppose to 75 soles from some of the tour operators in town for the exact same bus. The 9 hour overnight journey was comfortable and uneventful, we grabbed a taxi in Trujillo and headed straight for Haunchaco to a pre booked hostel. We moved hostels early the next morning as we had found a lovely little place at 10 soles a night called Oceana, it is one of the better places we have stayed and at $4 us a night we can't go wrong, its clean secure and the couple that run it are good folks. One of the reasons we had come to this area was ... read more

Pristupna verejnosti je jen ... read more

Tahlei Oh the beach, how I miss it. Not just any beach though- a beach with waves, with cool clear water and nice clean sand. It’s been a while since we’ve had one of those. We lived two years in landlocked Madrid and since our week on the Caribbean at the beginning of this trip we haven’t returned to the South American coast, until now. You might say I was excited at the prospect of a swim in the Pacific again, and maybe even having a go at surfing, but in the end I we didn’t even dip our toes. Still, we spent a good few days on the Peruvian coast. After leaving Ecuador we basically took back to back buses to get down the coast of Peru to the city of Trujillo, spending one night ... read more

Hello all. So we've finally made it out of Cusco. We spent another night there after our last post after setting up flight plans back to Lima. Our general plan has been to make it far north to a small beach town called Mancora as soon as we can. Relaxing by some beaches sounds just about right after the difficulties of walking around the high altitude of Cusco and Puno. The bus ride from Cusco to Lima takes 20+ hours so we decided to book a flight rather than spend a day cramped on a bus. The actual flight out of Cusco was uneventful, which we suppose is good. Right from the airport we grabbed a taxi to take us to the fancy Cruz Del Sur bus terminal to book tickets up to the north. A ... read more

When we signed up for this teaching we thought 2 months would be ages, but with only 1 week left here it seems like it's flown by. It's quite a strange way to live here - every week friends you've made leave, and new people arrive. Must be pretty tough for the people here for a year or more, but we're still having a great time. We had a long weekend last week, which was timed nicely with Sarah's birthday, so we headed up the coast a bit to find some warm weather. We chose a place called Colan to go to, and planned to get there for before the England Germany game - 9am here. The less said about that the better. It took a couple of buses, changing at Piura and Paita, the second ... read more

After an horrendous nights sleep on the night bus we arrived at trujillo. We were pretty pleased we were safe because buses travelling north-south have a bad reputation of drunk bus drivers and horrific crashes. We got the scariest taxi soo far from the bus station to Huanchaco where we were staying. Every hostel since the craphole at Cuenca I have been apprehensive as what to expect but Hostel Coco beach. The hostel wasn't bad, a really nice owner (very friendly), hot showers, cable tv and a sea view (althouh the sea looked like Redcar, very choppy). We were knackered from the nightbus so slept till afternoon then headed out for breakfast, we walked along the front of Huanchaco which you could tell would be very nice to visit in season, but we were out of ... read more
