Greetings people! This is Josh now. I thought I should give my hand a try at this whole travel blogging stuff. Moreover, I thought maybe I should put up some pictures of our adventures through Peru. As you have all read about these adventures, I am sure you'd like to see from friggin' pictures. So, without further ado, I present to you Lake Titicaca!!!! Now, a little bit about Lake Titicaca to refresh your memories.... Lake Titicaca is supposedly the birth place of Manco Capac, the first Inca (Inca, by the way simply means King... the Incas acquired the name Incas when Manco Capac decided that his people were quite royal and great and deserved to be called Incas as well... well the men at least, women can’t be kings... seriously, that’s what they thought). Anyhow, ... read more

Arrived in Puno on Friday 13th...unlucky for some....so unlucky for me as it goes....Someone up there is testing my patient and I am about to break!! Not really impressed with Puno, the town/city doesn't stand out, the people are nice but tbh I cant wait to get out of here, we are travelling with Brian (Tip) and Marie (Cork) who we met on the Inca Trek and we have takin a 2 day one night tour to the Uros Islands on Lake Titicaca to see how they live...it´s pretty cool actually these people live on Lake Titicaca on the reeds...they have made their whole life from the reeds, built houses, restaurants, schools, on them etc..when we went by boat to visit they have little reed restaurants...even a floating church!! That evening we went to the actual Island ... read more

Well, we are right into our Incan "history" now and there are some great stories! As legend would have it, God apparently put a load of giants on earth in Peru but before long they all became incestuous (as so often happens!). Anyway, clearly God wasn't too chuffed so he drowned them all by flooding the land. Hence the creation of Lake Titicaca, the next stop on our trip. Unfortunately we didn't see any giants, incestuous or otherwise, but it was pretty stunning none the less. Lake Titcaca is the worlds highest navigable lake at 3,800 metres (a great excuse to keep drinking that coca tea!). We started on the Peru side of the lake in Puno. Puno itself is pretty much just a town but you can do a great day trip onto the lake ... read more

I got the night bus to Puno with an American I met on the Lares Trek, we arrived in at 5.30am totally knackered from lack of sleep on the Pony Express(the bus company) we still managed to book a 2 day tour for 8am that morning to go to Lake Titicaca. It was lovely taking a boat and we managed to sleep on there so it was a bit of a lifesaver. We stayed with a local family for one night and it was very interesting. We ate the food they ate which consisted of potato soup, rice and potatoes and bread - carb overload. But boy did we need it as they forgot to mention when we booked that we had a 2 hr hike to the top of the island to 4100m. It wasnt ... read more

That day in the afternoon we were taking the bus to Arequipa (another 5-hour bus ride) so that morning I was really tempted to stay in bed and rest... but then again, when would I be in Peru again?? So, I dragged myself out of bed and at about 9am took a taxi to Sillustani, a pre-Inca burial ground. I had read about the site, and thought it would be interesting to have a look, but little did I know that its location would take my breath away.... The scenery was undescribable, and who wouldn't want to be buried at such a site... pity the dead wouldn't be able to admire the views.... :) The tombs, which are built above ground in tower-like structures called chullpas, are the vestiges of the Colla people, Aymara who were ... read more

The bus to Puno was only 6 hours and since I had already taken a 7-hour bus ride to Huancayo, I thought it would be ok.... but everytime I seem to forget how tiring it is.... and unfortunately the scenery wasn´t all too great.... The minute we left the centre of Cusco, all the way to Puno, the poverty of the people is just horrendous... and I couldn´t help but notice the rubbish lying everywhere, which is such a pity coz the landscape is great.... Puno is not a pretty town, I had already read this somewhere so I didn´t have any expectations.... but still I was shocked to see people live in unfinished houses.... Arrived in Puno at about 1700, headed straight to the travel agency (Allways Travel, a eco-friendly tour agency) and booked our ... read more

The 7 hour bus trip from Cuzco to Puno was generally uneventful, other than the ever spectacular scenery. We arrived in time for a 15 minute walking tour of our local city blocks before retiring to a luke warm shower before dinner in a restaraunt a couple of blocks from the Hotel. At 7:30 am our limo service arrived to ferry us to the docks for our boat ride to Taquile and Amantani Islands. When we say limo, we actually mean tricycle like, peddle like, taxi like things. And it was a race!! We do´t have a photo to post, but the video is a hoot. The boat trip to Taquile is a little over three hours, and we had a guided tour and lunch, which had us leaving for Amantani at about 3:00 pm. We ... read more

English After a hard day of local buses with animals and strange people included I arrive at Puno. Visit to the Taquile island with it's authentic local people (depending on the colour of the hat they wear they show their social status). Astonishing colours and views (the lake is located ... read more

Internet Cafe. Two hours booked....and counting. Talk about hectic. Its raining here in Puno at the moment and the narrow (if any) side walks are hard to navigate with all the people scurrying everywhere, so we´re a bit soggy, but we have some time to post some more on the Inca Trail. What an incredible journey thru the Andes. The place has a rugged majesty that is hard to describe. Photos don´t really do it justice. Our group of 34 trekkers (a record for the tour company) started at the 82km mark on the railway from Cuzco to Aguas Calientes. We walked a track of varying grades from 2600 metres to Huayllabamba at 3000 m. Most of us thought day one was tough, but day two took us to Dead Womans Pass at 4210m, and then ... read more

After hitting the highest point accessible by road in the Andes, our tour made its way to Puno. Really, Puno doesn’t offer much more than access to Lake Titicaca. For those of you who don’t know, aside from providing giggles whenever you hear its name, Lake Titicaca is also the highest navigable lake in the world (above 4000 m). Unlike Machu Picchu and the jungle, I really didn’t know what to expect at Lake Titicaca, aside from a huge lake. Because I had no idea what to expect and because I hadn’t seen any island photos, everything there truly amazed me. After taking a bicycle cart taxi to the port, we boarded a boat and went straight to the Uros Islands. The Uros Islands are made completely from reed. Seriously. The locals realized that reed turns ... read more
