Lima Peru: April 21 2006: First Day My flight was early flying into Lima at 10:30pm on the 20th. It was fairly painless, got some good sleep on the plane, and the Japanese couple next to me didn’t speak any english so it was a quiet ride, minus the crying, seat-kicking child sitting behind me. When I exited the plane I followed the signs leading to Imigrationes. On the way to customs I asked a man who had been on my plane a question about the baggage claim area, and we ended up chatting for a few minutes in line waiting to get our passports stamped. I told him about how I wanted to go to the jungle, la selva, near Pucallpa, and about how I had sold everything a few weeks ago because I felt ... read more

Hi, we had a pretty good flight and arrived early into Lima. When we got to the hotel we had a sleep. After a very nice lunch we checked out the Central plaza, SanFransisco chuch and the Inquisition museum. The kids liked the catacombs under the chuch, lots of bones.... read more

After an early morning drive to Heathrow i embark on the first leg of my 17hrs of solid traveling, the sun was rising as i waited to board, the same sun that i would see for the next 20hrs. The first flight to Madrid flies by as lack of sleep meant a long nap was in order. After a few hours wait the 12hrs of fun of flight two begins, alls going well until after reading a small book (thanks Gemma), listening to 3 new albums (cheers Andy) and at least 4 sizable naps i look up to expect to see the flight duration clock down to about 4hrs remaining, it said 8hrs 45 minutes, i lost all hope after this and even Steve Martin in Cheaper By The Dozen 2 didn’t help things. As we ... read more

Well, plenty of sunshine anyway, enough to get me sunburnt THROUGH THE FOG in only a couple of hours. You think you´re safe with SPF 100 sunblock and the traditional layer of Lima fog, but no... Still wearing the clothes I arrived in a number of days ago, as I put in all of my laundry to be done, and arrived too late to pick it up on the following day. Now everything is closed for the elections, including all of the laundromats, so I´ll just have to wear dirty stinky clothes for another day. I can´t even go and buy new clothes, because all of the clothes stores are closed as well! Nothing ever happens during elections in AUstralia (I guess that´s because no one really gives a damn), but here, everything comes to an ... read more

Greetings everyone! We are lovely Peru - we began our travels Monday from Fresno spending the morning getting some last minute items for the trip then heading to grandma and dad's home for breakfast before my Tia Paz along with my Grandmama took us to the train station as we needed to get to Los Angeles. We said goodbye for now to all the family which was really difficult for me - realizing that I need to go home more often than every 18 months! Anyhow, once at Union Station we caught the three dollar shuttle to LAX from there we caught a cab over to Brian Ball's place. Have you ever got a taxi and the first thing the guy says to you is TAKE A BUS basically he didn't want our fare because we ... read more

06 Abril - Lima, Ata Vitarte I was able to make a friend on the airplane, and she ended up walking me through customs, taking me in a taxi, and giving me a sofa to sleep on. My plane got in around 11:30 at night. So there I was, in a foreign country for the first time, with little of the native language to help me. My friend, Delia, tells me she is afraid for me, that there are taxi drivers here that will take you around the corner and mug you and that all of them will rip you off seeing that you are a gringo and presumably rich and gullible. She was right, they were even trying to scam her. Delia lives in Phoenix with her 10-month-old son and her husband lives here in ... read more

dirty and lame. would have liked to clear out sooner had my pack accompanied me on the flight from Miami. standing at the baggage belt mesmerised by the same few recognisable pieces trundling round again and again i then stood in ´line´with a bunch of pushy peruvians (also without their baggage) trying to get my details down for one and half hours at 6am in the morning. thank god the guy from the hostel was still there waiting. not before kimi, this sweetheart receptionist from the hostel very generously helped me get my phone unlocked for use here in south america, with atrip to a dodgy black market in lima and some hard negotiating in spanish. two days later my pack arrives and i´m outta there. ... read more

We have arrived in Lima, Peru finally after about 21 hours of flights and transits....I personally got about 5 hours of sleep and Josh managed to sleep most of all of the flights. We are fine and well in Peru after our long and tiring flights, and of course the taxi which nearly killed us...well i dont know how many times it was in the 40min trip to our hostel, but several times over we were close enough to lick the other cars (i can see why many didnt have wing mirros anymore). It was Vietnam all over again but more organised as traffic on our side of the road was all going in one direction. But people here dont seem to know what the 2 second rule is or what indicators are for!! but they ... read more

It is a new year, a year that has already seen big changes for me. I started the new year in Costa Rica, my first passport stamp. I also started the new year without Stacy, without my puppy Calvin, and with the idea of selling my house. Now I am on a plane to Peru! I am realizing my dreams. And the opportunities that present themselves reinforce my decision and are more clearly defining my life path and purpose. Although I know not what that path is, I feel I am on it. I know not where this path will take me, but at the moment it seems unimportant. I am enjoying myself, I am learning, and I am growing. I have been given some incredible opportunities lately. I feel like I deterred from my ... read more
