J.P.... read more

Gabriel... read more

Well, I am here. It is officially my second day here in Lima. I am residing in the district of "Jesús María". It is a safe area, and my family is great. They are very patient, which is really great because I SUCK at Spanish. Ok, perhaps that was a bit harsh, but let's just say that I am humbled on a regular basis. What I want to write about right now is something important to all of us. For all of you who have gone away to college, you will understand. You don't understand how much you love your home until you fly 4,000 miles south of it. I miss my family and my home like crazy. I can not put into proper vernacular. I don't have the words to describe it. Granted, it's awesome ... read more

Of course, we got back to Lima just in time to celebrate Masa´s 33rd birthday here yesterday, August 12. Too bad he couldn´t spend it surfing. However, Papou made it a very nice birthday anyway. First, she surprised both of us with a birthday/early wedding present of a cookbook that is put out annually by the women of the American Church here in Lima. It includes lots of Peruvian recipes both in Spanish and English as well as many other recipes for everything from cocktails to desserts. We´d looked at the copy Papou had when we were here before and it was the one souvenir we really did not want to forget to pick up. I can´t wait to get home and try some of the Peruvian recipies for food we have been enjoying here. In ... read more

I arrived in Lima just after midnight, and had pre-arranged people to pick me up (although they didn’t have me on their list so I was lucky they didn’t leave me at the airport) and take me to the hotel. The drive was crazy, the cars go all over the place taking no notice of the lanes and beep constantly. There where kids doing rap dancing and juggling at intersections to earn some money despite the fact that it was late at night. We also passed a couple of guys dressed all in black with hoods over their heads sitting by buildings, I presume they where security guards. It was a bit of a culture shock! The guys beeped their horns until the hotel opened its doors for me, so I had arrived in style. Lima ... read more

Voimme lammolla suositella perulaista terveydenhuoltoa! Ette... No, toivon ettette koskaan saa sita tietaakaan.). Pahin sarky meni paivisin ohi, mutta oisin Hannu-parka sai nousta hakemaan sarkylaakkeita, etta saisimme molemmat nukuttua sen verran, ettei seuraava paiva menisi ihan harakoille. Paastyamme takaisin Limaan odottamaan tiistaina lahtevaa lentoa Santiagoon oli pakko uskoa, ettei mikaan muu auta kuin toh... read more

Pisco, Isla Ballestas and Paracas National Park Having left the sanctity of Huacachina we took a one hour local bus to the city of Pisco, this was to be base for the next two nights. We took great priority in discovering the quickest way to leave here, and continue up the coast to Lima, once we had seen the Isla Ballestas. After a good nights sleep we headed off on yet another tour. This one was to the Isla Ballestas and the Paracas National Park. We spent a great two hours on a boat ride out to the Candelabra, a massive 128m long pre-Columbian drawing traced in the hillside along the coastline. We continued to the guano (bird shit used as a rich fertilizer) covered islands where we saw many sea lions going about their daily ... read more

Hello all! We have just finished our truck tour of Peru which was incredible but very hectic. We left from La Paz which was a brilliant city, full of strange people and things like the witches market selling potions, talismans and even dead lama foetuses which people bury in their house foundations to bring them luck! The tour party consisted of fourteen of us, and despite the odd difficult character we all got on pretty well considering we had never met beofre and we spent 3 weeks in one bright yellow truck called Jock! From La Paz we set out for the ruins Tawanaku. Unfortunately we were to meet our first adventure two hours down the road where locals had set up a road block to protest about the pollution of Lake Titicaca. After waiting several ... read more
