We had a short one night stop in Nazca as I wanted to see the Nazca lines for myself and see what all the fuss is about. We arrived early in the morning on an overnight bus from Cusco and were met at the bus station by someone from the hostel. Once we had checked in we organised a car trip for the afternoon to see the Nazca lines and the less famous Palpa lines. We decided against the US$100 flight as we had heard from several people that it wasn't worth it and you may spend much of the flight trying to keep hold of your breakfast as the little plane banks from side to side to enable everyone onboard to see the lines on the ground. The third and fourth World Cup playoff began ... read more

After spending an amazing couple of weeks around the Sacred valley we had to make a decision which way to head next, did we go to Bolivia and see the amazing salt flats via lake Titicaca, or start making our way to Colombia. I know, life’s hard right? As it is getting towards winter here we based our decision on the weather so the north won. I was also struggling with the altitude so the thought of going higher made my head hurt. We booked a slightly more expensive bus with Cruz del Sur as we had a 14 hour journey through the mountains to get to Nasca. The buses are more like getting on a flight as the security is just as tight. You also get a meal and a screen to choose your own ... read more

Day 42. We opted out of the optional trip to Ballestas Islands as it seemed like a poor comparison with our Patagonian Valdes Peninsula experience. Instead we had a later breakfast & just enough time to walk to the Paracas village centre to wander through the trinket shops & pick up a few supplies before checking out of our hostel to get back on the bus for an 11 am start to a 3.5 hr trip to Nascar. We were on a tight schedule as many of the group had pre-arranged flights over the mysterious ancient lines. Bus problems meant a 40 min delay & change of bus at Ica. Again we opted out as it didn't seem compelling enough to enhance my understanding or vision of the region. The flights themselves are on single engine ... read more

Servaient-elles à indiquer les cours d'eau voisins, ... read more

The bus from Lima to Nasca was 8 hours through barren rocky desert punctuated by the occasional oasis. Nasca is a fairly small dusty town on the edge of the Pampa Colorada. Most people come here to visit the Nasca Lines, a series of straight lines and geometric shapes (geogliphs) and animal and plant drawings (biomorphs). They are spread over a 500 sq km area and are so large yet shallow that they can only be seen from the air. They remained undiscovered until commercial pilots in the 30s reported seeing them. Maria Reiche a German mathematician spent most of her professional life studying them and theorized that they were made by the Paracas and Nasca people between 900bc and 600ad, using mathmatics and ropes to map out the designs, then moving the surface rocks away ... read more

28-29th April ’13 Nazca We sadly left Casa de Avila and shared a taxi with a lovely English mother and daughter combo, they were from Hastings (yes Mum I did say Oh I went there on holiday when I was tiny!) and mum was on a 6 month trip of a lifetime in south America while her daughter was on a year abroad as part of her uni degree and studying in Buenos Aires. It was quite funny when their jaws dropped open when we said how long we had been travelling! It was great to meet them, even though not for long and it was big hugs when their bus turned up first and off they went. Our bus eventually turned up and on we got for our 10 hour economico journey to Nazca. Each ... read more

Be to diena šiandien labai karšta, tad nelabai ir norisi lauke visą dieną bastytis. S... read more

Sako, kad visi š... read more
