Well haven't updated the blog for a while, but I have just finished 2 weeks of Relaxing next to the beach. I went to two places Buzios and Florianopolis. Buzios Description: Byron Bay of Brazil 2 hours north of Rio on the Coast. Wow Buzios is a must for anyone doing the north of Brazil. It is paradise and the hostel we stayed really topped it off. Literelly our courtyard where we ate breakfast everyway looked onto the beach. Couldn't ask for anything better. Didn't really do much here except for relax, swim and get a little sun. Florianopolis Description: 18hrs (bus ride) south of Rio on the Coast I loved Flori not for the place but for the place we stayed (Backpackers ShareHouse) and the people we met. The weather wasnt the greatest but it ... read more

Paraty was, more or less, a perfect tourist town. Quiet small, with a pedestrianised and cobbled centre, and a large waterfront filled with boats offering tours of Paraty Bay. Arriving on a Saturday, I was surprised to find out how busy the town (my hostel included) was. Someone told me that it was essentially a bank holiday weekend for everyone in Sao Paulo as it was a special anniversary of the city’s foundation, so to celebrate this, a lot of middle class Paulistanos flocked to the nearby beaches. On Sunday it seemed to quieten down considerably. I only spent 2 nights in Paraty, but this was about right to explore the town, the quays, the beaches and the old fort which overlooks the town (built to guard against British pirates using canons bought from the British). ... read more

Hello again, After realising our plans of traveling to the northeast coast of Brazil and making our way south towards Rio were a bit more expensive/ambitious than we could enjoyably handle we decided to fly from Manaus (where we ended our boat trip) all the way to the south of Brazil to a place called Florianopolis. After a 1 hour stop over in Rio we continued on to Florianopolis by plane and after catching a taxi at the airport we quickly realised we had entered an entirely different climate from the Amazon, to say the least. It is winter in Brazil right now so the south sees cooler temperatures, much less humidity, and the day we arrived at least- rain. The staff at the hostel informed us that the past week had been very wet but ... read more

hi everyone, how is everything going back home? So things with us have been pretty good. I left off the last blog with us about to leave punta del diablo in Uruguay, on our way to florianopolis in brazil. And here we still sit in floripa, we just cant seem to leave this place, its sucked us right in hehe. We left Diablo on the 3rd March. We had decided to just try and wing it with our bus tickets to porto allegre. We were meant to leave on the 2nd, but ended up staying an extra night in diablo. We thought we would just get on the exact same bus 24 hours later, and pretend dumb, like it wasnt our fault the dates were screwed up haha. So we caught the bus from diablo to ... read more

We have left Puerto Iguazu in Argentina, towards the city of Florianopolis, in order to experience one of Brazil's charming Carnivals. The idea was to get there a few days before carnival starts, so we would still find an apartment, relax a bit, learn the area and plan ahead our carnival. 15 hours on a bus, suffering all ranges of atmospheres: from sweating like hell (the driver decided that people have opened the windows so he did not turn on the AC...) to freezing cold (eventually, when it was middle of the night, and everyone closed the windows, the driver decided it is the best time to put the AC on) - brought us to Florianopolis. If we hoped to have any relief from the heat and humidity we left behind us in Iguazu Falls, we ... read more

Day 9 I left Ilha Grande at 12:30, arriving in Florianopolis via Sau Paulo 23 hours later, giving me my first experience of the serious lengths of travel required to see this amazing continent. I managed to get some sleep and it passed pretty quickly and relatively hassle free, although trying to buy a bus ticket in Sau Paulo had me sweating a bit…I really should learn the basic language…I‘m not enjoying being looked at as though I‘m an ignorant gringo traveller! I arrived in one piece, an encouraging first encounter considering I have many more bus trips to make during my stay in South America. Day 10 - 15 After checking into the Tucana hostel I went for a walk to the closest beach, Praia mole, which was pretty spectacular, even though the weather was ... read more

I sit and write this with a hangover. And not any hangover, i drank enough cheap Argentinian vodka last night to fuel a whole bloody nuclear war and the fumes seeping out of my skin right now, a good 12 hours after the night ended (yes, it was a 4am finish, nice) could fuel a small car, so excuse the spelling mistakes. I think last time i wrote we were on Ilha do Mel. Not much to say about that one...no one was there, it rained, none of the restaurants were open, showers were cold and we only had enough money to buy 2 cheeseburgers over 2 days, and they were rank. But...from Ilha do Mel onwards, we had the best time in Brazil, an absolutely aweosme final 10 days. We basically traversed the coast by ... read more

After 5 weeks in Buenos Aires and some cold weather, I was ready for sunshine and an increase in temperature! I left Buenos Aires on an overnight coach to Foz de Iguazu, the famouse waterfalls on the border to Brazil and Paraguay. The bus journey was actually very comfortable as the seats were nearly as a seat in the first class compartment in a plane! So I kind of arrived relaxed and with enough sleep in Port de Iguazu, where sun was shining and 25 C welcomed me, dropped off the luaggage in the hostel I stayed for the night and went off to see the falls together with 2 other girls, who were on the trip as well! It took about 45 minutes until we reached the entrance to the National Park and another 30 ... read more
