ok, so we´ve left Brazil now and were in Bolivia, but hopefully we´ll be able to get up to date with what we´ve got up to so far!! and i´ll start with the snorkelling we mentioned at the end of the last blog. After arriving in Bonito, Bryan our guide then told us a bit about the town, it has only fairly recently started offering ecotrips to tourists, the town itself has no attractions other than the natural resources of the area, and it has only been recently that the people of Bonito realised that people are interested in taking ecotrips such as snorkeling, abseiling and horseriding. As a group we decided that we would go to a ranch that was near the Prata river that offered snorkelling trips and horseriding, and would possibly abseil tomorrow. ... read more

I rode my high from the Pantanal to Bonito, a small tourist town sprinkled with rivers. The attractions were pretty, but the women were beautiful. They stood in their shop windows with tight jeans and short shirts. The younger ones stumbled over their words when alto rubio ojos de azul Tim walked through the door. The older beauties gave us only ice. This made me feel at home, a beautiful bitch is a beautiful bitch no matter if you are in Bonito Brazil or Biloxi USA. We wasted the day and wandered at night. We stumbled onto the local fair and perched ourselves on the one bustling corner in the sleepy town. Tim and i exchanged long winded conversations, as we most often do. We spoke about nature and love and our love for nature. He ... read more

delayed entry again so here goes..... got the bus from copacabana to la paz to finally get my bank card from the embassay!!!we celebrated with a subway which tasted nearly as good as home!!!! Then we got the most upgraded bus in boliva and paid 150 bolivanos about 15 pounds to go from la paz to santa cruz. Good bus, even although it was 3 hours late and obviously no reason just when we think yes we are nearly there we ask and the driver is like 3 more hours, aaarrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! Then we get to Santa Cruz to get the death train (not scary just used to take ages and be dodgy) to the border into Brazil. This is the most chugguest train ever, never stops chugging and making loads noise and is really really shaky ... read more

Last time I wrote I was just about to leave Argentina to enter Brazil, now I´m writing again about to leave Brazil to enter Argentina (again, I think this is the 4th time in as many months). So I´ll start from where I left off last time... Iguazu Falls. One of the natural 7 wonders of the world, this huge series of waterfalls cascade over a large crack along the border of Argentina and Brazil. There are over 270 waterfalls in total, with heights of upto 80m, which means absolutely nothing until you are stood at the foot of one of these giants, and vast amounts of water are cascading down towards you, and beautiful rainbows are created in mid air. There are large areas of mist created by the sheer power of the water, and ... read more

So the only way to the Pantanal and Brazil is a 16-20hr train, doesnt sound too bad especially if we splash out and go top class with full reclining seats for a few pounds. Oh those trains dont go til Sunday, we get told, and its Friday so we have to go semi-recline and slightly grubby class, half price. It all starts going a bit awry at the train station with everywhere being a bit hectic as the strike gets hold and the distinct lack of any tourists/travellers still concerning me. Oh look theres some western looking folk, they are western looking but are all wearing dungarees and trucker caps (not the trendy ones that Gemmas loves, just plain red or green, think Mario Brothers) and they all look identical, kinda a mid-west american country look ... read more

Ok, so the bus ride was a long one yet again, though the scenery was a little different this time....it felt like we were travelling through the Outback or maybe we were transported to Africa while we slept!! It was red dirt for a few hours and animals running around, there were no paddocks on these farms, they just went forever with sparsely populated trees. We arrived early afternoon and were in much need of a shower so booked into a hostel across the road from the bus terminal and cooled off. We then rang Aline and told her that we had arrived and what did she want to do that night, she promptly told us to pack our bags cause she was on her way to pick us up and wanted to know why the ... read more

Ok, so it's been a week since we left Bonito but this is the first chance we´ve had to write about it (see next entry). Spent a couple of beautiful hot days here, a bike ride to an artificial beach, which included volleyball courts in and out of the water, a "Flying Fox" hang-slide into the lake, a trampoline, and huge fish surrounding you as you wade through the shallow end! The next day was spent snorkelling, unfortunately we have no photos other than us in our wetsuits (very flattering!), but it was amazing. The waters were absolutely crystal clear, and in fact we weren´t allowed to touch the bottom as disturbing the limestone would dirty the water. The fish were beautiful, colourful, and unperturbed by us floating silently above them watching their every move. One ... read more

Well our voyage into Brazil from Bolivia was enjoyable, we got onto a super Pullman class train and watched Jean Claude Van Damme movies until the army came on and searched my bag and eventually we woke up at the border. Tired, weary and having no clue what our plan for Brazil was (aside from getting to Rio on Feb 18ish) I was really looking forward to settling in a hostel and doing some planning. I did not actually get that chance because before any of us knew it, our fatigue roped us into going to the Pantanal. The Pantanal is something I was interested in, albeit from reading a book about it years ago, however it was not really a priority because I was more or less intending to spend my time in the Amazon ... read more

We got the farm truck from the Pantanal to a building that sat on a cross-road, it was a very strange place. We were greeted by a young gentleman in military uniform with a gun and jack boots which gave the impression the building was a State border post, however he beckoned us into the office in a ´make yourself at home´way. A few of us went in and a few of us waited outside. In the corner of the room was a small TV showing the final stages of a Samba competition, the guard was very much enjoying the girls shaking their bootie and encouraged us to watch it. Beside the TV was a huge library of pornographic DVDs. After getting directions from the guard I made my way to the toilet. Out the back ... read more

The last week or so has been rather interesting, and I must say that I am really looking forward to the rest of Brazil, although the cost of living may get out of hand. As you know we left Santa Cruz on the Death Train - we were all sure it was going to de-rail - for Corumba Brazil. After getting off the at the wrong stop, Jordan was attacked by two tourist companies who quickly got us back on the train and headed for the right destination. With little, to no idea of what we wanted to do in Brazil until Carnival and with no way from the boarder of Bolivia to Corumba, we decided to take the free ride from the train station to Corumba that one of the guys offered....and we were sold. ... read more
