Well I have finally arrived in Argentina for classes. However my luggage did not. At some point you have to leave the ariport and hope it all works out ok and After 24 hours of travel and minual sleep, you just do what you can. The plane here to Cordoba was a strange mix of people. The flight into Cordoba had a Women´s Field hockey team from Austrailia. They told me that they were there for a world competion. The Argentine team is some of the best in the world and they are having big international competion the next two weeekends. I may go to check out one of the games, either this weekend or the next. They told me that women from all over the world are coming to Cordoba to compete. I used to ... read more

Han denn au amel e bitz d Nöchi vom Wasser gsuecht. Am Fritig simmer ins Gartebad, wo übrigens nur grad 3 Quadras vo mir dehai entfärnt isch gange. Dört kunnt me im Fall nur ihne wenn me e Stämpel vom Doktor het, dass me keini Fuesspilz und keini Lüs ... read more

"I...am...never...taking...another...night...bus....again...understand?" This was the question posed to me as we arrived in Cordoba, a mere nine hours by bus (Chevallier) from Buenos Aires, but given that the movies and lights were on most of the night and then we were woken early by music, not the best trip. This wasnt good...How the 'eck were we going to get back to BA, walk?! I decided to let the issue lie for a while to allow the water to cool... And so to Cordoba. Centre of Argentina really, right next to these small hills they call the Sierras, and second largest city in the country. Very like its namesake in Spain. And hot, very hot...42+ degrees for the three days we were there. We checked into a hotel recommended by Andrew and Susan (Hotel Vienna), who had reconnoitered ... read more

Tues. 27th. The overnight bus from Viña del Mar was bearable. Hardly anyone on board, and all the seats went back. Problem was arriving in Mendoza at 5:00 a.m. and not being able to book into the hotel until after 9:00. It's hot, even at that time, so goes the ceiling fan and aircon, and we sleep till mid-afternoon. Went in to a travel agents to book a Winery Tour, and when we came out the sky was black, and the wind was ripping the branches off the trees. 1/2 hour later, the stair rods had stopped and it was lovely and fresh. Mendoza has an abundance of beautiful trees. Our favourite is the silver/grey one with "maple" type leaves, which originates in China. They must have got a job lot because they are everywhere. D Sierra isch so e Hügelketti wo in öbbe 600km Abstand de Ande vorglageret isch.

Inzwüsche han i mi dritte Schueltag do in Cordoba hinter mir und au bi mirere Familie han i mi langsam igläbt. Irgendwenn het är denn au no welle in mis Portemonnaie luege, was ich natürlich nid welle ha. Noch ... read more

I finally managed to drag myself away from Cordoba since all the late nights were seriously catching up on me - when I say late nights, they were really early mornings. Bright sunshine and about 22 degrees when you come out of a club in the morning is a bit of a shock to the system but I didn´t seem to have any problem staying awake during the night, despite having to dance to the musical extremes of either electronica or salsa with nothing more to my taste inbetween! It was the trying to get some sleep during the heat of the day that was the hardest thing! I arrived in La Cumbre on Saturday night and went paragliding on Sunday morning. Now I know what it feels like to be a condor and float on ... read more

Have been in Cordoba for about a week now and it´s been great just to base myself in one place with a little exploration of the surrounding Sierras. Cordoba itself is a funky town with a young, stundenty vibe, since it has the oldest University in Argentina. The hostel I moved to is in the heart of the student district and I´ve got to know a really nice group of people, nearly all of whom are travelling on their own and, just like me, have ended up chilling out in Cordoba, not wanting to move on! I wouldn´t say it´s the most amazing landscape at all but after all the non-stop travelling I´d done for the first month, it´s been nice to stay in one place and get to know some people. My most interesting visit ... read more

It´s been about twenty years since I last rode a horse (that makes me feel reeeeeeeally old writing that - hadn´t realised it was that long until I came to write this blog!). Rode up into the Cordoba Central Sierras yesterday with a fun group of people, which was organised through a hostel that I´ve just moved to. It was a lovely day and fortunately a had a nice, plodding horse so felt very safe. Have a sore bum and very slow legs today and am therefore guessing it must have done some good!... read more

It´s been a while since I´ve had access to a computer and we´ve visited the most amazing places since my last entry. After the two night journies between Iguazu and Salta, I think I´ll try and avoid them as much as possible in future! If you were to look at a map of the roads in Northern Argentina, you´d see that there´s one very long, straight road from Resistencia to Salta. One might imagine that, since about 4 coaches travel along this in both directions every day, the condition of the road might be fairly condusive to a good, smooth journey. Not the case. Alison and I thought we were lucky to be given the two front seats on the top deck of the coach (they´re all double deckers over here!) but in fact it meant ... read more
