So we had a long weekend... It´s best to start at the beginning. We hopped on a bus at 6pm friday night mentally prepared for what we thought would be a 9 hour bus ride. The bus was nice... they fed us (of course important to me!!) and there was more space than on an airplane. The first snag in the plan was a HUGE car wreck... or should I say truck wreck. The two gas carring semis backed up traffic for hours. We arrived in Cordoba City late and instead of going to the hostel we had planned out (it was already 8am) we hopped on the next bus to Bellagrano, a town about an hour and a half away. We got to the sleepy little town and shopped around (I found mittens! And they ... read more

Since the English teacher is out ill, I volunteered to teach English to each of the 12 classes in grades 1-6. It's been a lot of fun and the students are marvelous! Check the photo below. On Friday, we visited the city of Alta Gracia which is about 45 minutes from where I'm staying. We met up with a few other Fulbright Scholars that are staying in Cordoba and enjoyed comparing notes. We visited the Colegio Anglo Americano which was originally founded by the workers of the Renault factory in the city. The goal in the school is for all the students to be bilingual. High School students performed traditional folk dances for us and the local news station was there to record the event. Later, we went to Escuela San Juan de Paul which ... read more

This entry was originally posted as a facebook note on July 25th, 2007. I hope to be more formal in my future entries. Hello everybody and I from the bottom of my heart I hope you are all enjoying your summer/winter depending on where you are. Also, I will thank all of you personally on facebook for your b-day wishes. Thanks a lot. I'm not really into like writing this kind of stuff, but I have to keep a blog and until I do that I'm just going to use facebook notes. Also, if you receive this in email form sorry I have to keep the older people informed too you know. So, basically, this is just a hopefully humorous account of my past three weeks. First, I'll talk about my wonderful time with many of ... read more

This was my second day at Dr. Nores school. Yesterday the students looked at me as if I were from outer space. But today they came up to me and asked me lots of questions. I observed a second grade language class, a sixth grade P.E. class and a fourth grade math class. I noticed that they don´t use textbooks. All their lessons are copied from the board onto their notebooks. The weather was great today not as cold and lots of sunshine!

We arrived from our trip of the provinces yesterday and today I went to the Colegio Dr. Nores. I was welcomed by the entire school and met the Principal, the teachers from both the morning and the afternoon sessions, and the support staff. I also toured the school and shared a slide show of San Juan School. At the opening of school, all the students line up in the central patio area and sing a song to the flag. They say a prayer and brief announcements are made. I´m certainly glad that I knew Spanish! I look forward to visiting the individual classes during the week. After meeting with the other 15 Fulbright Scholars who traveled from Minnesota, Nebraska, Arizona, New York, California, etc., we flew to the city of Córdoba. Here they say that this city is the "Heart of Argentina" because it´s in the center of the country and because it´s rich in culture and history. We took a tour of the city and learned about the Jesuits. We visited the cathedral, the government houses and the university which is one of the oldest in all of the Western Hemisphere. Tomorrow, since the students are still on winter vacation, my host family is taking me to visit the northern provinces of Argentina. We will be back to Córdoba on Monday. Después de juntarme con los otros 15 becarios del Programa de Fulbright los cuales viajaron de Minnesota, Nebraska, Arizona, Nueva ... read more

Well, Its been a while since we´ve last updated everyone on our fantastic adventures in Argentina. I believe we left off with us still being in Buenos Aires. The rest of our time in the ´big city´was great. We wined and dined ourselves for a few more days before we caught a bus to Cordoba, a city in the very heart of Argentina. It was a 300 mile trip, and just as expected in South America, it took about 11 hours. The thing about the buses here is that they stop in every town and serve as local transportation as well. Its actually kind of nice (accept for on your ass!) because you get to see all of the little towns along the way. We arrived in Cordoba at night and made the trek to ... read more

Cordoba & Alta Gracia South America » Argentina » Cordoba » Alta Gracia By Nori NellJune 24th 2007Narelle & Paul Hola Amigos! I am no longer in Cordoba, in fact I am in Brazil and left Cordoba what seems like forever a go.... but....I did go there! And left there pretty quickly! I´m sure it´s a great city, I just didn´t really take to it :( Maybe because we had just left Rosario and I had loved it there! Anyway.... we wandered around Cordoba for a day and due to a killer bus ride the night before we headed to bed early! Which is probably the problem, as Cordoba i... read more

Bevind ik me even in de omgekeerde wereld.
