Hola Wohoo! Back to the world of blogging! So what can I tell you. After the joyous nature of our 26 hour plane journey to buenos aires we didn´t really see that much of buenos aires. Made it to the coolest cemetary the world has ever seen (yes I know me and graveyards never mix but this one is very cool!) and attempted to find some good steak (I had a mouthfull - but still not back to the world of the carnivous I´, afraid pops!) - (kay talc still wins!) but we weren´t really in the mood for huge cities so what do most normal people do when they´ve just got off the worlds longest plane journey - yep we booked ourselves on the first 14 hour bus ride out!! Argentinian buses are amazing! National ... read more

PUERTO MADRYN The train ride south eerily resembled flat, Kansas farmland, complete with windmills and the occasional horse skeleton dotting the landscape. Our first stop was Mar del Plata. However, this was a summer town and we couldn't understand why it was so expensive considering how cold and dead the place was. The town gave us a weird vibe, so we decided that instead of spending money in a town we weren't really interested in, we'd jump on a bus and keep going. It was the shortest we've ever spent in a town. Puerto Madryn is about half way down the Argentinian coast. It's mostly a jumping off point for viewing the nearby wildlife. The first thing we wanted to do was to go whale watching. We had never been whale watching so we didn't know ... read more

I finally got to the cemetery in Buenos Aires a couple of days ago - had a quick look and then dashed off to get my bus down south to Puerto Madryn. The bus was late and so I spent a very scary hour at the bus station not knowing if I had missed it or if it was ever going to turn up (there were no announcements and no one to ask). Luckily it did turn up eventually and the journey was as comfortable as I´d hoped (the seats are like giant marshmallows and recline fully). I had checked twice with the bus company that they knew I was vegetarian and they assured me there was no problem (journey was 20 hours with food served on board). The steward on board also showed me his ... read more

Day 127: Monday 3rd November - Arriving in the Chubut region without a plan I get off the plane bang on time at 5.15pm in Trelew. Immediately, the heat hits me. Although still in Patagonia it is a damn site hotter than it has been the last few weeks. I can't wait to get into the shorts and flip-flops. First I need to work out what I'm going to do or rather where I'm going to stay. I know what I want to do whilst I'm here which is a day tour to Penninsula Valdes to see whales and then a trip to the nearby Welsh colony of Gaiman. Do I stay in Trelew which is nearer to Gaiman or Puerto Madryn which is better for trips to Penninsula Valdes? Can I get everything I want ... read more

So we have made it into (Northern) Patagonia (this was one of the areas I was secretly most excitied about...). Can definitally tell that we have arrived in this climatically challenged part of the world as the winds down here are incredible. (Apparently its just something we are going to have to get used to over the next month). So the main reason for visitng this area is for all the abundance of wildlife close to here. Peninsula Valdes is close by which is home to Nañdus, Llamas, elephant seals, penguins, dolphins etc.... but the star attraction around here are the Southern Right Wales which can be spotted in Peninsula Valdes at this time of year. The whale watching tour was pretty spectacular - loads of mums with their calves (calves were especially playful - splashing ... read more

Being in a city is great but after a few days we started to crave being somewhere a bit less hectic. Heading to Puerto Madryn to see some Whales seemed like the perfect place stop over on our way to Ushuaia and it didn´t disappoint. Although the town itself is not much to look at, it has a really nice feel and being by the coast was like a breath of fresh air! We arrived at our hostel around 8am and quickly headed off down to the bay for a coastal walk. We didn´t actually expect to see whales so easily but there they were about 40m from the shore. The hostel guy had said we would probably see them but we didnt actually expect to. We decided to carry on walking along the coast and ... read more

Herrow...this entry comes to you backdated from my trip. I am reminiscing and using my handwritten journal to jog my memory. I love to snowboard. I learned to snowboard with Scott McLaughlin, one of the three guys that came to visit me towards the end of my time in Buenos Aires. Partway through the semester, my friend Arielle mentioned that she was going to make sure that a ski trip happened during her time in Argentina, and that sounded awesome. The issue being that the season in Argentina was only just starting as I was leaving the country. Scott, Arielle, and I managed to squeeze in a weekend trip to San Martin de los Andes during my last weekend in Argentina. It was pretty early season, but we were getting snowed/rained on the whole time we ... read more

Dag 87 - 89. Byen har idag ... read more
