I have been sitting here, trying to tidy up the thoughts in my head so that I can present them to all of you in a pretty package filled with meaning, love and clarity. I do not know if I can give you this gift. I have just agreed, with myself, to give you what I have and for the rest of this entry I will give you my jumbeled thoughts, run on sentences, observations, laughter, and tears stained with dirt. Last weekend I wrote about my confusion with how I was going to deal with the anniversary of the Golpe de Estado (coup). At the time I thought I was going to mark the week by reading about the 7 year Dirty War and I can say that while my thoughts got more and more ... read more

Well the cruise is over. We finished on Saturday night (11th) with wine tasting, dinner and a tango show. Was a fantastic night. Food and music both amazing. It is very sad to say goodbye to all my fellow travellers on this part of the trip and I am very glad for the ease of email in keeping in touch with so many new friends. Some of us have stayed on to see some more of this big city. I think there are around 14 million people here, only 14 times the size of home!! I will be here for a month and so far the first few weeks have been soo busy. I don´t think I will be able to see everything. Highlights so far: San Telmo sunday markets with Roswyn and Lesley- bargains, food and ... read more

Well, now that I have rested after that fantastic round of golf in queensland I have been a very busy little bee (bear) around the huge town of Buenos Aires. Managed to flit across on the ferry to Uruguay (as you do!!) for lunch and some shopping. Went to a concert with 30000 other porteños. Have been studying very hard the language of español, very difficult for a koala but i needed to find out how to say ¿where are the eucalyptus leaves on the menu?... read more

Not really but I came very close at the argentina boarder. The last time I was here was to Jion a Cruise ship as a photographer. I got an entery stamp but no exit stamp in my passport. OOPS. Big problem!!! I had alot of explaining to do in very broken spanish But I got through the ordeal a free man. I hope there are no more problems when I leave this time. I showed the officer all the other stampes dated after Argentina to show I had not been in the country for the last two years over staying a 3 month tourist visa. This all took place between the two visits to the Iguazu falls. I wanted to see both the Brazillian side and the Argentina side. I am glad I saw the Brazillian ... read more

Today we headed down to Purto Madero which is a bit like Daling Harbour really. It used to be a working harbour until it became to small and was deserted for a new and improved one. In the 80's the area was redeveloped and is now a bit of a yuppy area with offices, resturants, bars and apartments. This is where the Hilton and the new Phillipe Starck hotel is located. And there is even a night club modeled on the Sydney Opera House! Classy! After walking around for a few hours we decided to have lunch at a steak house and try the famous Argentinian beef. This is where i learned that when you order beef you get beef...and nothing else. I went for a 500g scotch fillet and when it arrived it was just ... read more

Hey everyone, just so you know this is the address for my apartment where I'll be at least until August. 1548 Medrano, Piso 2, Dept. 3 e/c Costa Rica y Soler Capital Federal 1179 Buenos Aires, Argentina So I have a few days off for Easter, and I'm trying to figure out where I'd like to travel. It will be my first pure vacation time since I got here. I'm thinking Iguazu Falls since it would be something I could easily do in a few days, but it will also still be very hot there. I'm trying to prioritize my trips since I don't have a whole lot of vacation time. I'd really like to get to Iguazu Falls, Patagonia, and somewhere in the Andes. Maybe to Santiago, Chile too or Brazil if I have the ... read more

Today we went to Recoleta which is a pretty upmarket area most known for its cemetary. This is where very rich people go when they die. Its really a beautiful place. Many of the family graves have glass doors so if you peek inside you can see coffins and everything...bit spooky.... read more

Last night I went to see a ballet, Romeo and Juliet, at one of the large theaters here. I went with two of the other Rotary Scholars. It was a nice show. I don't think I'm a huge fan of ballet, it was a little long, but it was beautiful and the music was nice. It was also surprisingly cheap. The opera, ballet, and orchestra are very popular here, and very affordable. Even for locals, the arts are more affordable here than in the U.S., and with the exchange rate, it's a steal for us. The most expensive ticket for the ballet was $35 pesos (which is about $12 US). My ticket in the orchestra was $27 pesos, or less than $10 US! In Washington, the cheapest ticket to the Kennedy Center was like $50 or ... read more

Tonight was amazing. There is a very old and famous bar next to my apartment, Cafe Britanico. Cafe Britanico is probably the most important bar in the area because it is the place everyone goes. Old men and women, working people, young people, hip people, tourists and dogs. It has huge windows that they keep open all of the time and people lean in kissing those they know sitting in those windows. It is where people live, gather and laugh. The landlord of the building has not renewed their lease and they are due to be kicked out at the end of the month. The landlord wants to put a more tourist friendly shop that will benefit them ....not the people that own Cafe Britanico or the community. The people in this neighborhood have come together ... read more
