I had an accident at the hairdressers the other day. I can't tell if the problem started with the bald and bossy hairstylist or with the lack of communication. One thing is sure. I am 26 and I have an extreme mullet. I showed the man a picture of a girl with a lovely cute pixie mullet. Her hair was cut short on the top and sides in a pixie fashion....the back was long and wavy. I liked her bangs. They were piecey. I covered up the whole photo leaving only the bangs. I tried to explain that I wanted bangs like hers but only longer because of my calick. He asked me what I wanted to do with the rest of my hair. I was honest....I didn't know. He gave me a suggestion first "why ... read more

Right now the place I want to be is on the beach under trees and stars laying on my back with my loved ones. I want to be looking at the stars, listening to the swoosh of the tide rolling in or out and maybe the crunch of someone walking on the rocks. i want it to be chilly out but wrapped up tight in sweaters, hats and scarfs. I want there to be a bottle of wine sitting between us. I want the sky to crush my chest with its vastness. I want to feel the weight of the world. I want to feel the moment of being there and know it is the only thing that exists. Right now I want to be listening to Bruce Springstein in the dark. Right now I want ... read more

Lindsay has gone to meet up with Mariu to attend a Justice and Penalty class at the Universidad de Buenos Aires, (UBA); I admire her academic perseverance on such a lovely sunny afternoon. This morning we had our Political Science class, we discussed the transformations from military dictatorships to democracy in Argentina, Brazil and Chile. After, we had Literature as a Mirror of Social Change; we continued our discussion of Roberto Arlt's The Seven Madmen, a revolutionary existentialist masterpiece by an Argentina author. Following our morning classes we had a much needed cafe con leche (latte) and some medialunas (croissants). We took the #42 bus to the train station and then walked a few blocks to the GreenPeace office. We are going to do some volunteering there with some of their current campaigns. The building is ... read more

Well I can honestly say that I have never been this sore before in my entire life, or tired for that matter. Sunday I began training, and training hard. I figure if I only have about three weeks here I need to get in shape as quickly as possible. This means that I have been running every day on top of bike riding in the gym and lifting weights. When you factor in how long it has been since I have done any of the aforementioned activities you get one sore Ryan...I would kill for a massage and, or a hot tub. . I am getting to know the people at my gym, who unfortunately seem to want to talk more than lift weights and I am beginning to get a good feel of the area. ... read more

Today I got: a headache a letter from Uncle Jimmy three new students a steak sandwich a round brush Last week I bought a hairdryer for $98 pesos. Today a round brush. My hair is styled. I look like the Lizzz I once knew. She looks hott! Today I drew the line of what I would do for a job. Every Tuesday and Friday I have a class at 8 am way up north. I leave at 6am so I can walk to the subway. Then I take a forty minuted subway ride to the last stop on the D line. I then walk a block and board the 161 and sit back and relax. In an hour I will be at my destination. For the 3rd time my students did not show up. No-no-no. They ... read more

I´ve spent in Buenos Aires 3 weeks, not because you really need so much time to see all the main attractions the city has to offer, but just because I had such a great time there. In the middle I'd left for Iguazu, only to return a few days latter, because I've felt I hadn't exhausted Buenos yet, but Iguazu is a totally different story. Actually Buenos Aires is a huge city, with population of 3 million in the city itself, and around 12 million in the metropolitan, and when I first arrived to Buenos I was astonished by its size - we went on a highway for about 40 minutes from the outskirts of the city till its center. But all the attractions are conveniently concentrated in its center, so you don't have to travel ... read more

Tonight we saw another film at the film festival. It was about a gypsy boy who lives in Spain and a Japanese girl who moves to Spain. The boy sings but has recently stopped because he is in mourning...his father died a year earlier. The girl wants to sing like a famous Flamenco singer but goes home after a few months because her father dies. The movie got me thinking about why I am here. I realized I ony answer the question "Why are you here?" On a superficial level. I know there are deeper reasons and I need to look at those, to explore them deeply, to understand why I am here. By answering this question now I hope to push my self deeper into my journey. Lizzz, why are you here? On the most ... read more

Good evening everyone! In a desperate attempt to aviod homework I decided it would be a great time to add a little blog! Not much has happened since we got back from Colonia, We went out last night to a club called Azucar (sugar) which is a salsa club, and danced the night away until 6 in the morning. The music was great, and a welcome change from "musica electronica" or trance music that dominates most of the clubs here. There was also a little show with some of the salsa teachers which was amazing, the ways they could move their bodies hypnotized everyone on the dance floor, especially the men. Coming from Canada, I'm not really accustomed to men who know how to dance... so it was interesting to see. (Hint to all men in ... read more

Today is my mama's 3rd annual 55th birthday. I am trying something new today. My room has been transformed into a cafe. I am sitting on my bed, headphones glued to my head. Coffee thick and sweet with real cream and sugar. Currently I am examining my red varnished nails and cursing my truly uncomfortable bed. I know Jeff would fight me to the death on this one. His new foam mattress (mine is also foam) is 100 times better that his old bed made of sleeping mats and blankets. Foam mattresses for Jeffs in Olympia may be perfectly fine but they are not good for Lizzzes in Buenos Aires. My mattress holds the shape of someone else and there is not enough room for the both of us. I am developing back problems. I think ... read more

This has been an amazing weekend! The official tour of Buenos Aires has been really helpful in understanding the seat of power of the country! It's also an extremely beautiful place. San Telmo and Boca are my favorite areas. Recoleta cemetery is also really interesting, sort of like a city within a city. The tombs of all of the rich and powerful figures from history are all gathered into one small area of the city, much like the cemeteries in New Orleans - before Katrina anyway. They are full of tourists, the whole city is full of tourists. San Telmo is one of the most beautiful neighborhoods, one that looks liveable, just nice place to be. There are fashion markets and antique fairs along with the various tango orchestras playing in the streets. It was fun ... read more
