Oceans and Seas November 9th 2008

Day 1: After a rough first day at sea, we have now found our “sea legs” and are able to eat without feeling like we are going to vomit! However, we still haven’t found our balance and continue to stagger through the hallways and fall into walls like drunks. We had a cloudy day with late day rain showers, but we are hoping tomorrow will be better. There is a hurricane hitting Cuba 2 days away from us but we should be far ahead of it by the time we get to St. Maarten. Jesse made us get up at 6am this morning to reserve chairs with a towel….when we got outside there chairs were still stacked and the crew was cleaning the decks….needless to say this is not a young ship and the “sunny seats” ... read more

So after leaving Cairns last saturday we arived in this little town (although I'd more say it was a street) called Prosepine just nearby Airlie Beach. We got there at night and then we worked the day after. had to get up at 5 am and leave for work an hour later. and then we picked tomatoes for one day. I got sunstroke and got sick and Lisa pulled through but we decided it was just not woth it. and so we grabbed our stuff and the next day we were out of there. Jumped the next bus down to Airlie Beach and here we are. Stayed at a hostel and met up with our english pal from the plane, and some people from our cruise in Cairns, pretty amazing to meet up again. Meet alot ... read more

It is a beautiful sunny day at sea. The temp is in the high 70's and I feel horrible. I'm taking the medications but it will have to work it's way through. So far, Annie and Henna are still healthy. It seems to be lasting about 2 days, so I should feel better tomorrow. We lounge again, sometimes up on the serenity deck. We love to look over our balcony in to the ocean. The water is so blue. Sometimes we see little fish, the size of a bat, leap out of the water and glide over the top of the water, before diving in again. How can it be so enjoyable just watching the rolling waves and water. It is so beautiful. We saw everyone at breakfast, and then Larry and Henna at the Serenity ... read more

Today was the second of two sea days onboard the Pacific Princess. Our entire group is adapting to the rhythm of the ship. Naps are being taken, more reasonable meals are being eaten, and folks are taking advantage of various shipboard programs. A little discussion about the Pacific Princess. This ship was originally one of the Renaissance Cruises “R” series built in the mid-1990’s.(Renaissance went bankrupt by trying to sell directly to the public and bypassing travel agents—good riddance) It’s relatively small at 30,000 tons with about 660 passengers—but only about 600 on our cruise. Princess kept the “clubby” feel to the vessel. Several faux fireplaces can be found in various public rooms. Furniture tends to be overstuffed chairs and sofas with kind of a Country Club feel. Carpets are colorful oriental designs. What is nice ... read more

Today is a day at sea. Ken has caught the scratchy throat, congestion that is going around. I go to the infirmary to get him some cold medicine. I hope I don't get it. I use Clorox wipes to wipe everything down. We have a small breakfast with Larry and Henna and return to the room. I think we will read, sleep, watch movies, room service today. Not so bad of a day, right? Friday, November 7th continued...as the day wore on, I started feeling icky..scratchy throat, congestion. Ken suggested I go down to the infirmary to get some more Theraflu. I open the door and there are about 10 crew members waiting to see the nurse or doctor. I see my masseuse, Caity: not a good sign for me! I don't have to wait because ... read more

In an effort to catch up I’m combining Monday’s Cozumel port day, and part of Tuesday’s Belize port day. Cozumel is one of the ports my beautiful bride and I have looked forward to on this cruise. Back a few months ago we booked an excursion call “mini jeep and snorkel tour”. Our excursion was scheduled to start at noon so we woke and showered about 8 AM and went to the Red Sail restaurant and had a nice breakfast buffet. At 11:00 AM we walked off the ship and down the dock to find the place where our guides would be waiting. After we checked in we still had about 30 minutes before the tour started so we walked around port and bought some sun screen. Purta Maya, one of the main ports in Cozumel, ... read more

Today is a sea day; time to relax. We slept in, ate breakfast and then walked around the outside deck. Up and down stairs, around the track to get some exercise. Too much food and wine! We found a secluded deck (Serenity deck) and Ken, Annie, Bobbie and I relaxed there for a while. Spa music plays on this deck so it was very relaxing. Annie and I have an appointment at the Spa. We are having combination stone massage, foot massage and scalp massage, so we head for the rooms to take a shower. An hour later we meet up in the relaxation room after our treatments: it was heavenly. Annie's back has been hurting, so the massage helped a lot. We next went to a makeup seminar (still in our robes); It basically consisted ... read more

hey everyone. we made it out on the open ocean and now were heading into the intercoastal waterway. we stoped off in annapolis for a couple days. we had some engine problems. but dont worry were getting that all taken care of. although if anyone has a spare motor they would like to donate to us for our trip that would be very appreciated! were traveling in the chesapeake bay on our way to norfolk where the real intercoastal starts. we really underestamated the great atlantic ocean. we had a few waves come over the stern but everything is fine well brendan got a little wet and our little radio was sitting in a foot of water in the cockpit but other then that it was pretty fun. surfing down waves and having to really hold ... read more

Our group in on its way to Alexandria, Egypt. The Pacific Princess set sail from Naples under cloudy skies and headed south and east so we can reach Egypt in two days. The weather is about 70 degrees, but we had showers all day long. Folks got into the rhythm of a day at sea. Everyone had the opportunity of taking advantage of this very nice floating resort. Linda gathered most of the group in Sabatini’s restaurant at 10:00 AM for a class on various aspects of the bible and our next stops in Egypt and Israel. Dr Ray Vath explained how the early Egyptians used advanced geometry and other techniques to create the amazing great pyramids. The food and the service on the Pacific Princess have been excellent. And several of the ladies took advantage ... read more

The ride on the tender was fun. My beautiful bride and I watched as the ship became small and distant. A beautiful site she is. The dark, Duke blue, water surrounding her as the sun lit on her starboard side. Soon we could hear the sound of the reggae music coming from port over the drone of the tender’s two outboard engines. .After 10 minutes we were on the dock, through the security gate and walking through the shops. Shopping in Belize is like most of the other ports. There were lots of coffee cups, tee shirts, shot glasses, and average everyday people trying to make a living off the tourist. The one thing that stands out is the presence of thousands of fake purses and designer items. My beautiful bride being knowledgeable of fine purses ... read more
