Hi there, gem again, well early in the morning here in Auckland. We picked up my friends Elinor, Laura and Simon yesterday and yes there was some tears at the arrivals gate. Lovely to see them, feels very strange walking down the street and them being there. Their journey was very long as they have to be and they only managed 4 hours sleep and so were walking zombie all of yesterday. But they managed to stay awake till 9 so did better than me. We managed to navigate our way to the hotel through the maze of Auckland traffic. Think London but not recognising anything and no congestion charging. The hotel is clean, smart and has a fab shower and lounge area. Was getting panicy that it would be a horrible place due to the ... read more

got woken up by the sun, shining down on me :) absolutely beautiful, warm, sunny morning. so off we headed for our final destination of the trip, kings canyon. and yet another 8km walk. eep, don't think i've ever walked so far!!! once again with the wow factor though. it was totally worth every second of pain trying to hike up what might as well have been a bloody mountain! it was so so steep!!! (thankfully it was all downhill on the way back :)) again, saw many lizards and birdies - good fun this wildlife spotting lark! we headed to the garden of eden, which is a natural swimming hole at the bottom of the canyon. it was so peaceful and beautiful, and 5 of us were brave enough to actually go for a (very ... read more

Well after a gorgeous journey to Milford Sound we arrived to be greeted by swarms and swarms of Sand Flies - yuck!! The only comforting thought was that only the females attack you for your blood! Camp site was very basic (although probably to be expected in a World Heritage Site) and to be honest was a little too "League of Gentlemen" for our tastes! Anyway boat trip tomorrow! PS: Meant to say that we stopped off at The Chasm on the way which was awesome! ... read more

We woke up Monday excited to be in Australia and ready to go to the city for orientation. This is where renting the car proves to be a mistake, haha. We find out that Sydney is the 2nd largest city in the world the hard way. MN trying to direct me and me trying to drive in downtown Sydney is quite the disaster. We somehow find where we’re going and then go to the nearest parking garage. It definitely cost $40 for two hours, no good! We went to orientation and found out a ton of great information that will certainly help us down the road. Our first mission when we got out was to get the car, so we weren’t broke, and turn it in a day early. The rest of the day we spent ... read more

So far I have made a rough guess at places I want to see in Australlia thus far. I haven't bothered to put the amount of time besides each that I will stay as I honestly have no idea how big they are or what there is to do in each place. I want to make sure I don't miss out on anything on my travels so will stay as long as it takes in each place to see what there is and do everything I can (both physically and financially). So far this is what I have got. London Cairns (travel last week of October 2005. Then CookTown Port Douglas Cairns Mission Beach Townsville Magnetic Island Airlee Beach Rockhampton Gladstone Bundaberg - Defeinitely going to the Bundaberg Rum Distillery - apparently the chocolate ... read more

Nope I wasn't being stupid spoke to some truck driver who was nice guy, married with kids and he travelled back and forth the area. Needed to get back asap so jumped into truck. took 15hours to drive but now safe and sound in Brisbane and it was free and obviously gave Jess all information to be safe so no comments, learn't fair bit about life of a truckie which was fun. Spent loadsa time chatting on the radio to other people with radios. Everyone in Auusie on roads flash you if coming opposite direction to let you know there is a speed camera coming up. We should do that would be helpful. Leave Brisbane tomorrow and don't have time right now to put on photos but I'm very brown and seen some absolutely amazing things ... read more

Well we arrived in Queenstown yesterday, following a 7 hour journey in our campervan from Christchurch. Not too bad a journey as the views more than distracted us from the passing hours, wasn't until it started to get dark and we were still amongst the mountains that we started to get a bit worried! We've decided that we don't need to buy a Harley Davidson anymore as the campervan seems to attract waves from fellow "happy campers" so great comradeship :o) Stopping in the Lakeview Camp Site in Queenstown at the moment, which is really nice - piping hot showers in the morning and five minutes walk into the centre of Queenstown! Started the morning off with a gorgeous breakfast in a place called Coco - well worth a visit! Headed off to the first bungy ... read more

Hello everyone from the hikers in SA! With Dan being sick all last week with tonsillitis and ear infections, we chose a smallish walk for today. Dan is still coughing a bit (poor dear) however he is so much better than this time last week when he wouldn't even get out of bed. A summary of the walk We went to a very small park, situated between the suburbs of Salisbury and Golden Grove called Cobblers Creek. It was hardly our normal 'escape from suburbia' as through most of the walk we could here the noise of the traffic on The Grove Way, a major road that bisects the park. Peter complained often "where is the serenity?" and asserted that this would be the last time we visit this park! The walk itself (the Porosa ... read more
