At the end of August I finally found a new place to move into and said goodbye to Kensington Rd. I'll miss the girls but am glad to be out of the house and rid of Jason!! My new home is just a minutes walk from Chapel Street = great location. The house looks deceptively small from the front but is actually huge inside. There's also a really large garden, although admittedly it's rather wild. My new housemates are Liza and Micah, both Aussies and my friend Lucky.... read more

Unfortunately we had to pack up and leave our boudoir motel room and the owner (Wanda!) gave us a lift into town so we could go to the local markets before getting the bus to Airlie ... It was a load of tat basically but quite nice to have a stroll around. On one stall selling crocheted hats(!) there was a sign saying "Pidgeons for hire - release pidgeons on your wedding day" and acccompanying photos of some tacky weddings with the bride and groom releasing these birds out of a white cage sat on a pink puffed satin plinth! Brilliant! What are pidgeons with a D anyhow? I thought that was what people in Papua New Guinea spoke? And how do they get them back in the cage afterwards? The mind boggles. Anyhow, enough of ... read more

we got woken up just before sunrise - it was still totally dark, the stars were still out and all my clothes that i'd put on the end of my swag to dry overnight were totally soaking, dammit! upside - the campfire was still going so i managed to dry them out :) after cooking toast on the campfire (sooo much quicker than a toaster!!) we headed back up to the viewing point near camp to watch sunrise. and i thought that sunset was good!!!! before the sun came up, uluru was dark, almost grey and surround by mist. then, as the sun gradually hit the rock it changed and became more and more red, surrounded by the most picturesque pinky purple sky. kodak moment for sure :) it was a lot lot warmer and sunnier ... read more

Today I did alot of driving. Last night I drove for a little while up to Timaru and tried to sleep in the back of the van....it was freezing cold, rediculously cold. In the morning it was -4 C, so it must have been in the low 20's F at night, no heater....ouch. I woke up early this morning to make sure that I caught my 6:30pm ferry. The drive was very pretty and went through mountains, forests, and over many beaches. I stopped a few times to get gas, to stretch, or to explore some of the rivers and beaches. Kaikora was very nice. I stopped there for about half an hour. The water was very blue and the beach was full of large rocks. I wish my camera had some battery life left ... read more

Sunday morning came early and we headed to the airport. We were so sad to leave Lynds, but just kept praying that everything would work out the way it was supposed to. MN and I arrived in Sydney at about 12 p.m. to a most beautiful day! We were so excited to be outside, it was awesome! Before we left we had decided to rent a car, because our apartment was a $75 dollar taxi ride away. So after getting all that squared away, he hands us the keys and we put our luggage into our Holden Astra. MN and I were really really nervous because of the left lane and driving in the passenger side. I volunteered to drive and we were on our way. Talk about a scene! MN had about eight maps out ... read more

Early early early start today! Was picked up at 6.20am from the hostel and taken to the start of the Tongariro Crossing walk. I eventually arrived back at 4.20pm having walked and climbed up the side of a mountain! Very very tiring and my feet ache now. But was worth every minute as the views and sense of achievment were fantastic! Check out Tongariro Expeditions... read more
