Well my month long jaunt to Australia is just about at its end and i am quite sad about this as there is so much more that i want to see here and i am very keen to come back and see the west coast and just about any other significant part of it that i have not seen. It seems like there is so much more to see. I have stayed mainly to the more well worn track of the east coast since i have been here (except for my trip to the red centre) and i think i want to go more off the beaten track when i return to this great land. Its just a bit sad thats all because i know exactly where i want to go and how i would do ... read more

Bonjour tout le monde! We're in the Archipel de la Société, where Polynesians ride bikes whilst clutching baguettes, eat croque monsieur, play pétanque and listen to accordian music (well, sometimes...). The laissez faire attitude comes naturally to Polynesians so it seems to be quite a good match. Indeed the Polynesians here voted to maintain their association with France in a referendum in 1958 (mind you, that was five years before the French started detonating nuclear bombs in the Archipel de Tuamotos). As far as the French are concerned Polynesie Française is another part of France itself and a fair number have decided to follow Gauguin and start a new life out here in the cyclone zone. One thing that immediately strikes you about French Polynesia is that there are flowers everywhere. Many of the locals wear ... read more

Yesterday, trolling the web trying to find the "West Australian" article published a few weeks ago, I came across an article written by David Flint on the Australians for a Constitutional Monarchy website. In it he attacked me as an "elderly" man who was trying to act young by using the word "like". I was stunned by the personal nature of the attack. As for "elderly", I dare say in the Twenty First Century, sixty years is hardly considered old by anyone. All this seems to reflect more on Mr. Flint's lack of touch with contemporary language and life than anything else. Like, get with the program Davo. Of course we all know he's stuck in the Nineteenth or is it Eighteenth Century? 17th? Not to worry. The monarchist minority can attack me all they like. ... read more

Well I am now in Melbourne. We have been here a few days, we havent really slept too much. There is a really fun pub next to our hostel. I have been whipping Aussie boys at fooseball and I have enjoyed every second of it. Well here are some updates...Miss T had her birthday before we left Michelles. We bought her some really funky clothes and Michelles Mom made her cupcakes. It was fun and there were still quite a few people there so it seemed like a birthday party. I tried to get in as many surfing days as I could before we hit the road. I have some amazing pictures but I am using hostel internet and I can't load my pictures onto it. So we hit the road with Aaron, Dave, Miss T ... read more

Hello everyone from Adelaide! After finally leaving Alice Springs on Sunday, I began the 2 500km drive down to Adelaide. Although there wasnt much to see on the way down, what we did see was just out of this world - despite the 4am-5am starts!!! We started our trip to Kings Canyon which was really impressive. Ive done so much stuff its difficult to remember some things but ive taken hundreds of pictures!! What I do remember though is the big red rock - Uluru. Its easy to see why the rock is so spiritual to the Aborigines. Ive never seen anything like it to be honest, especially at sunrise and sunset - wow!!! Some of the colours and the way the rock changed was an incredible site to see. I also climbed the rock - ... read more

Hello Hope everyone is well. Or as well as can be expected. First......a little shout out to the newest State Champ in the family. Good job Colten!!... and crush them you did. Next year is your year to open some doors for yourself. If you get your ass and head wired together. I am great. I was able to spend some time with our cousin Melissa in Christchurch. She had some things going and was moving soon. Good times with her and her flat mate in Lytellton. Good bar, BBQ, and music. The main street was shut down to vehicles and the whole town showed up for the jam band. Good stuff. I will meet back up with them on the north island. Now here in Dunedin. A sweet college town with many opportunities. Tonight i ... read more

Off the bikes - doctors orders 28-30/01/06 We get dropped off at Anglesea Clinic this morning where a doctor manipulates my knee for a while before announcing that I may have a torn meniscus and I need to rest it for seven days, definitely no cycling. He then tells me that after two days rest I should start exercising it, he says "a really good exercise for the knees is cycling". I give him one of those looks and we come to an agreement where I will lay off for a couple of days, then bimble around gently on the flat and see how it goes. After a week I will try some "serious" cycling and if the problem is still there I will probably have to have an arthroscopy (aaaaarrrrrggggghhhhh). On the 29th we take ... read more

Hi everyone, since my last entry I have moved from Thailand all the way to Melbourne, Australia. I've got a few bits of news from when I was still in Thailand and then I will update you on Melbourne and my forthcoming trip to Ramsey Street! Thailand: Our final day in Krabi was spent sun bathing and looking around the shops. I also sampled a traditional Thai foot massage. There are lots of massage shops lined up along the beach, although they all look very similar; a row of mattresses on a raised platform with a thatched roof covering them. Very basic but fitting. We visited massage centre number four because we felt obliged. A lady from the centre had approached us on the beach earlier and when we said that we would probably be visiting ... read more

Feb 3 Today we droped Dave off to the vets and had lunch with Jane and Peter in Mandurah at her sisters house. The views from there were beautiful with being surounded by native bushland and a view to water on 2 sides and had lunch with a family of Splendid Wrens. We had updated our last web page and Sandy dropped us back home in the boat with a lovely moonlit view as wed came back from the island. Feb 4 Nard spent the night at a friends house so he could be up early to go fishing on the boat. Nard cought a Trevalley and one of the other blokes cought a 53 cm whiting that they cooked up on the BBQ for lunch. Meanwhile I went for a walk down the beach to ... read more
