LEECHES!!! more later... Journal # 41 2/18/06 The last few days we have been in Melbourne, Victoria staying at a youth hostel. The Hostel is also equiped with a bar and that is where all the backpackers go. It has an internet cafe and that is where I go. Mostly I do school here, but I did have to tour the city with my family. Journal # 42 2/22/06 LEECHES!! not yet... Yesterday we had dinner with David Yaffe. Not my dad, David Yaffe, but another man with the same name. We had drinks at his apartment and then went to a Chinese restaurant for dinner. I don't know if this will be a theme throughout our trip...dinners with David Yaffes. We will have to keep the phone books away from Dad. We visited the Melbourne ... read more

Wow! What a trip! It was amazing - delay after delay after delay, but thru it all such grace under pressure, if I do say so myself! I am rather proud of myself, since patience is not exactly my strong suit. The journey door to door (or rather door to dock) took 32 hours!!! Some highlights: G was AMAZING at helping me get ready and pack - truly deserves the Most Amazing Person and Partner in the Entire Universe by A LOT Award!!! Especially as I got really ill and lost 24 hours right before I had to leave (and she was amazingly wonderful at taking care of me too). Not only did I have all my stuff for a three week trek across New Zealand, but also all the stuff for Mom and Brian too! ... read more

Hello!! Oops didn’t realise it had been quite so long since I last wrote anything!! What have we been doing, well!!! Not that much actually!! Also, I noticed that the pictures at the end of the last blog weren’t for that time so I’m going to move them and put them on this one! I’ve also had to put this onto two entries as it seems I had more to gab about than what I originally thought!!! On the night that I wrote the last blog Lyds, Phil and I went to a house party at one of the other houses owned by the same people as ours! That was really good and we met some new people as well!! The Sunday we went down to Circular Quay where we bumped into someone we had met ... read more

Like greit.

Hey Everyone....how is everbody doing? I found a spare 5 mins to try and write again....I think we were in Airlee Beach last time i wrote, and now we are in Rainbow Beach, just south of Hervey Bay....we did the Fraser Island 4x4 camping adventure....Fraser is Australias Largest Island....it was sick...we had a Land Cruiser and 10 people were in it.....we drove ourselves....went to some cool water holes and sand oasis....some amazing places....it is loaded with Tiger Sharks which like to eat people, saw a huge string ray on the beach....it was only ankle deep, so you really have to watch out....there are lots of dingos too...it was real cool to see....we set up camp on our second night and had a huge party at our tent....it is true "build it and they will come" ... read more

Since the first Kiwi entry I have driven around the south coast stopping along the way to see some of sites. Dunedin (done-nee-din) is a large university town and is much livelier than Christchurch. We arrived tired and in need of a shower. After looking in every hostel in the town we found a campsite with good facilities and pitched up for the night. Despite the fact that we were all shattered we went out for the night to sample what Dunedin had to offer. We got the bus to the Octagon, which is the centre and went to the first bar that w4e found with live music. The band was really good and so we got our funk on! The two girls got dragged up by two really drunk Norwegians that had trouble holding there ... read more

Hey allesammen. Fantastisk udsigt.

It took us two and a half days to cross the plain and we really enjoyed it, which cam as surprise as most folk we talked to said it was a boring drive, but I suppose we are less used to that kind of scenery and get more out of it. As you can see it was really quite green which was a surprise beacuse of all the heavy rain and storms that southern Australia had had in January so it was looking kinda lush! Here some pics I took as we drove along:... read more

Today I redid the Bondi to Coogee beach walk without the downpour, which was far more enjoyable. It is a beautiful stretch of coastline past Tamarama, Clovelly and a graveyard. We spotted huge spiders and skinks, but the strangest event was a middle-eastern tourist. Why? Well, I was standing reading the plaque above Bondi when said tourist approached and demanded to know "Where are all the people? What time is there more people?". This was odd because firstly, I was reading the info on the plaque, implying I was probably not the local guru and secondly, why he was so insistence on knowing! Having suggested that the forecasted rain and overcast sky were keeping people away and that usually there were lots of people, several times, he walked away unsatisfied (after trying to get an exact ... read more
