Well we have been deciding on arrival how long we want to stay as nothing is pre booked. Melbourne looked nice and after a couple of weeks out in the sticks with thousands of Aussie nuckle draggers we needed a bit of city life. We stayed in a nice hotel and recharged the batteries. Our last day was to be at the MCG for the one day England v Aus. Neither of us had been to a cricket match before and didnt know what to expect. How long a one dayer takes or even how the game is planned. We arrived at 1 for a 2:15 start and found ourselves surrounded by thousands of Aussie nuckle draggers except for Cleggy, a guy four rows down with an England flag and Cleggy written on his back. As ... read more

This is something I would often told my girls when they were trying out their wings and forgot to pack their parachutes! As I dusted them off, I would say; "You'll get to Z from A just as surely if you go from A to B and then C ....." It's a long way from Australia (there's the 'A'), to Spain and South America. And there is only 'me, myself and I' on this trip. So Singapore is a good place to try out many new things. Customs & Immigration in a post-September 11 world, hostel life, huge crowds of people everywhere and wrestling with the combination locks on my small case. Necessary, because I've left my glasses inside and I can't see the numbers! The Singaporeans are a smiling, friendly, very multi-cultural group of people. ... read more

Wow! Who said I wasn't IT literate? This looks good I think - I'm doing well, so far... The journey - it began in the year 2001 when I was travelling through Europe wondering what I was going to do with my life... Having already been a Social Worker for a few years and having the experiences of working in both Australia and the UK, with a bit of travelling thrown in (which was my dream!), I found myself faced with questions about "the next step"..... The answer hit me when I was on a bus travelling with fantastic friends (from Oakhall) "I know what is beating in my heart - working in Africa with traumatised kids..." So, being a Christian, I prayed... and prayed... and told God He could send me anywhere in the world ... read more

Melbourne Town Hall Melbourne Town Hall is the central municipal building of the city of Melbourne and it is the seat of the Local Government Area of the City of Melbourne. Melbourne was officially incorporated as a town on December 13, 1842, however, it wasn't until 1854 that its first Town Hall was completed. Begun in 1851, the work ground to a halt with the beginning of the Victorian gold rush. The foundation stone of a new, grander Town Hall was laid on November 29, 1867 by the visiting Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh, after the demolition of the first. The current Town Hall officially opened on August 11, 1870 and is another piece created by architect Joseph Reed. The building is topped by Prince Alfred's Tower, named after the Duke. The Tower includes a 2.44 ... read more

We arrived down under into Darwin at the very social hour of 4am in the morning. We were thrilled to finally be in Oz, however it took another 2.5 hours to persuade customs to let Claire bring her chocolate and wooden Christmas decorations into the country… talk about strict custom rules! The heat and humidity in Darwin were hard work, especially when trying to cook in a kitchen the size of a shoebox with no fans or aircon! However it was nice to be able to cook for ourselves again, as hardly any hostels in South East Asia had kitchens and it was always so cheap to eat out. It didn’t take long to explore Darwin as it is only a small town but its history is quite interesting, as it has survived a massive cyclone ... read more

Early morning, we went to Hot Water Beach. Here you can hire a shovel and dig a hole in the sand and if you are lucky, you might hit hot water below. We got there 3 hours before high tide so the timing wasn't right. We tried digging a hole but gave up and just sat in the sun for a couple of hours. Later we drove into Rotorua and checked into a motel for the night. The place stinks of rotten eggs as there is sulphur dioxide emitting from the lake.... read more

Here we are in Geelong having the luxury of a house to ourselves! We have just realised that other than our camping trip by the Ganges and one night at Aggra, we have been staying with friends or friends of friends since leaving home so enjoying the space to do "normal stuff"! We arrived in Melbourne on the 9th of Jan and were met at the airport by Megan - a mutual friend had insisted that we meet up and of course everyone does what Claire tells them! So, we stayed with Megan in Werribee for three nights before driving in our very beaten up rental car to Daylesford for the Boite Singers Festival. (This is whats great about singing and travelling ... it takes you to places well off the tourist track and gets you ... read more

Its ages since we sent out a blog and we are way behind with doing all this now! This entry is from 2006 and marks the start of our journey inland from Townsville-las JULY! We headed on The Great Inland Way from Charters Towers towards the Gem Fields via the Belyando Crossing Most of the coast roads we have experienced are well maintained with plenty of places to stop and take a break. This journey was different: it was a hot, glorious day (BIG SKIES) and the road was extremely straight, only to be broken up with a few welcome undulations. We passed by endless hours of dry, barren, rural, uninhabited countryside. We wondered how far it must be to some of the homesteads, because we certainly couldn't see them along the long driveways that we ... read more

hello every one, Sorry we haven't been intouch, this is because we ahven't had enough time to write this blog! We all had a fab, but tiring time, traveling round in our mini campervan! It was quite cramped and i hvad to share a bed WITH KIERAN my brother! He moves around and takes the cover and also draps himself over me!!! Any way it was a treat to be able to stay with Ken and Dot (Dad's cousin nad his wife!) because they just did every thing for us, so thjanks so much. While we were there they were looking after there daughters dog 'Aussie', the labourdoddle (1/2 labourdoor(?) and 1/2 poddle!) who was so adourable and i grew very attached to him. He is about 6 years old and very very playful. Every time ... read more
