Well, it should now be perfectly obvious that we've lost control of the blogging situation. What follows is a brief account of christmas, new year and our other adventures in the Land of Aus. Airlie Beach turned out to be a pretty good choice for our christmas base, despite TC (Mike's old boss) calling it "a dump" and advising him to "get the hell out of there as soon as possible!". It was sunny, had a big lagoon safe from the jelly fish but with a good view of the ocean and it had plenty of boozy entertainment to offer. On the downside it is incredibly touristy and for the most part aimed at an 18 - 30 crowd with a smattering of family entertainment thrown in. The main bar in town offered various events each ... read more

While eating dinner tonight, I listened to a guy from Omaha karaoke Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door while a Frenchman played the electric harp. Oddly, his slow tempo rendition sounded much better than anything Axel Rose put out. What struck me the most is that the moment put me at peace with our trip. The rain has been incessant since our arrival in Tahiti but even it was soothing this evening as it pelted the tin roof of our restaurant. Earlier in the evening we spent about two hours with one of the original ‘Bali Hai Boys:’ Muk. His real name isn’t Muk and he surely isn’t Tahitian. Actually, he’s an ornery 77 year-old Newport Beach expatriate. Muk and his friends (insert names) came to Tahiti in 1960, opened a series of businesses and never looked back. ... read more

I'm really sorry that it has taken me soo long to post another blog. I keep wanting to sit down and write about all the things I'm doing but can never seem to find a good chunk of time to get it done. I've made quite a few friends in Melbourne during my extended stay here and they are always asking me to go somewhere to which I can never say no as most of you know that I'm a social butterfly of a sort. Anyways, hopefully in the next week I can fully catch up since I've finally set a date to leave Melboune and head to Tasmania and I don't want to stay behind the 8 ball for the whole trip!! So hopefully you can expect a few blogs in the days to come. ... read more

I have arrived! It was a looong travel. Things started off great. My parents dropped me off at the Vancouver airport, we said our goodbyes, and I didn’t even cry. I was feeling good, excited and at peace. I went to get my last Tim Horton’s for 6 months, and settled in to wait for my flight. While I was taking pictures of myself (gotta capture the moment), a nice lady next to me asked if I wanted her to take one of me, I passed, but we started talking. She is from Melbourne, Australia, but her boyfriend recently moved out to Vancouver (she seemed quite upset about this) we talked for a good while, and she told me lots about Australia and New Zealand. Then off we went. The flight from Vancouver to LA was ... read more

Ok, so it's been a while since our last entry, but that's because we've been really busy! So go on, get a cup of tea/coffee/whisky* (*please delete as appropriate) and settle yourself in for a whistlestop tour of the south island of New Zealand... In the next few paragraphs we guarantee you thrills, spills, a whole new cornucopia of transport arrangements and wildlife as has never been encountered before. WARNING - this blog has been rated as 18 (it will take you roughly that long to read!) Right - we headed off from Christchurch on the beautiful Tranz Scenic railway for Greymouth where we picked up Dougie - our lovely little (the appropriate word) hire car. The Dougmobile is powered seemingly by 100 running gerbils, and while he tries very, very hard, he does occasionally object ... read more

3 WEEKS TO GO! Hi Guys! After watching Shonelle & Mike and then Vicki, post photos and info regarding their trips on this space, we thought what a great way to keep you all informed as to what we are up to, where we are and where we are heading! No photos to add yet, but we will definitely post some thing when we start packing etc...the usual chaos will abound I am sure (especially around MY backpack when I realise I have to cull and can't take 5 pairs of shoes!! AAGGHH) he he. We hope you enjoy our little 'Amazing Race' as much as I am sure we will enjoy it!!! Take care, Dean & Claire... read more

My time travelling in countries similar to Canada has come to an end. In less than 24 hours I will be on a plane to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia where I will begin to travel through Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam. Although slightly nervous at the unknown, I am feeling extremely excited to embarque upon the one part of my trip that I think will truly open my eyes to different cultures, experiences and ways of life. This is the reason I wanted to travel and therefore it seems that my entire journey has been leading up to this moment. I have thoroughly enjoyed my last couple weeks in New Zealand, but once again it seems they have also been filled with anticipation as to what next to come. After the Routeburn track I spent one ... read more

True fact. So far my highest number of friends on the tour, although two of them are leaving tomorrow so back down to one. My last entry finished with me mentioning the possibility of lounging and pottering for the rest of the day, which I duly did. Went back to the hostel for a cheeky beer and then into town for a Subway dinner which was lovely. On completion of our dinner, went back to the hostel, had another beer and went straight to bed. Very very tired and quite pink (again). I've discovered actually that I'm utterly useless at putting suncream on. I randomly leave big patches of me out and am turning into a sort of patchwork of pink and white. Soon however the patches will merge, and I will become as brown as ... read more

So I've been cleaning in my hostel for free accommodation... Oh oh! One of the best girls ever came back home two days ago and we celebrated by going to a Cuban bar and shaking what our mamas gave us. That was pretty fun. Hmm... what else... It's been really humid and the stench from the market's dumpster has been wafting up to our back yard. It's not very pleasant.... read more
