AMAZING. WE went on a 3/4 day walk up the glacier. It was brilliant. We left at about 11 and got back about 5.30 and probably had a good 3-4 hrs on the ice. The formations were incredible and went through some tunnels. I have uploaded the photos and so if anyone is interested ill send the link i warn you now i was very snap happy! Got back and felt very stiff and exhausted but it was well worth the money.... read more

I made my way up to a little place called Hervey Bay (think Wasaga Beach). Its essentially a gateway to the worlds largest sand Island, called Fraser Island (someone once told me that it holds more sand than the Sahara dessert, however, I'm not convinced). Over here there are dozens of travel companies all looking for your backpacking business. They all offer things like free internet and free nights accomodations to lure you to sign up with them. In Sydney, it was raining for a few days in a row, so I took a few hours out of my day going around and getting the best price (15% off) for this trip and the next one I'm about to embark on as well (a sailing trip in the Whitsundays). I figure this is just a warmup ... read more

So...im sat here at my desk and I have to say its hard work being a receptionist!!!yup...i have had to buzz in at least 3 people to the building and the rush looks set to continue.. ok so I am now working (albeit not hard) in Sydney, just doing odd days here and there for agencies as nothing permanent has come up yet. Although my bank balance is hoping it does as its pretty expensive living here!! So...I got here a few days before NY eve and Lex and I went to stay with her Godmother's son called Sam, who is 30 and lives in Clovelly right in between Bondi and Coogee in a gorgeous apartment. The first thing I did was head straight to the harbour to look at the opera house (not as big ... read more

Westwoods words............ Ok so Melbourne has everything that Sydney has got but the beach (St Kilda) is further away (a half hour tram ride) - love the trams! We should have them in Birmingham! St Kilda is so cool - like Bondi it has funky vintage shops, cafes, cake shops (plenty of 'tasty pastries' Sab and I mean in more than one way - buff bod alert!!), two piers, bars - I love the vibe of the place - would of moved to a hostel there but couldn't be arsed lugging my 20 ton backpack on the tram! So stayed in the city - much nearer to everything going on! Ok so the last week has been spent on the beach at St Kilda and in the city seeing the various sights that Melbourne has to ... read more

Fraser Island - as we said before, it's the largest sand island in the world and it's off the Queensland coast. We were picked up early in the morning and put aboard a 4 Wheel Drive coach along with about 30 other people and off we went on a barge to the island. We landed on 75 Mile Beach, which is a long golden sand beach, which doubles as a runway for light aircraft and a road for 4 wheel drive vehicles. The edge of the beach seems stable enough, but whenever cars tried to go across the beach inland, they had a tendency to get bogged down - I'd have hated to do a self-drive 4WD hire there. After driving along the beach for a while, we stopped and walked inland to a barrage lake, ... read more

Wednesday 10th January to Saturday 13th january 2007 Margy incredibly appeared at the hostel at 8.30am as agreed and we set off up the hill for the fifteen minute walk to the car rental joint. It was pouring with rain. The car, a Daihatsu Iria which we soon nicknamed 'Herby' was tiny but perfect for the two of us and we headed off in the direction of her hotel to collect her bags. The hotel manager, Matthew, gave us some insider information and told us to avoid Hamilton, the more direct route I was planning to take, and use the more northerly minor road and at 10 to 10 we hit the road. Driving on the left made it a formality although the positioning of the indicators on the right and wipers on the left gave ... read more

Well the head needed a good rest and relaxation after the festivities of xmas and new year and Tazmania was just the place to do it. Nothing but miles of stunning scenery, like Cradle Mountain and the chilled out white beaches of the East coast. We arrived in Launceston on 5th from Sydney and stayed in a little motor inn for the night. The next day we picked up our transport for the next 5 days, and it didn't inspire us with much confidence! It was a clapped out Suzuki Swift with dents and bangs all over it. By the time we filled her up with all our bags i didn't think we'd get up the tiny hill nearby let alone the mountains of Taz! But for what we payed we didn't expect anything better so ... read more

Monday An overcast day warm and breezy, a good day for the beach I ask Kala to drop me at Whitfords beach. The beaches here just seem to go on for miles and miles they are clean and the Ocean is warm. You have to be very careful, as the currents are very strong so I will only swim between the flags on the beach where the beach is patrolled by the Surf Lifesavers. I spend the afternoon alone on the beach just thinking walking and reading, oh and singing along to my I-Pod. Pure heaven. The wind got up (called the Fremantle Doctor)so I decided to walk up the coast I must have got carried away because I had the most delightful walk all the way to Burns Beach. That’s quite away apparently. In the ... read more
