Vecer sme boli v miestnom kine co nam poradili este x-dni dozadu v Arthur's Pass. Wanaka sa totiz pysi velmi vychytanym kinom kde maju namiesto klasickych kino-sedadiel stare rozhegane sedacky, stolicky, kresla a dokonca aj VW-Beatle v ktorom sa da sediet a pozerat film.. Hned pri vchode je skvela kaviarnicka kde robili vsakovake drinky a piekli dobre vyzerajuce kolace.. Kusok divne bolo ked v polovici ... read more

Nedela - 4.9. Tu vyrazame na kratku 3-hodinovu prechadzku, ktora nam trva ... read more

Arrived in Wanaka today after having a fairly slow morning. Quite wet again, though is dry at this precise moment. Stopped to see a big beasty waterfall at a place called Thunder Creek, quite nice to see. Just having a chilled afternoon in Wanaka before heading for Queenstown tomorrow!... read more

I left Chirstchurch this morning and drove south for the All Blacks game. I decided to take a longer, inland route so I could see the lakes and go to Wanaka and Queenstown. I was very happy that I did that........... read more

G'day! After an invigorating jump off of a cliff in Queenstown, we all excitedly jumped into our rental car, "Sunny". No we ddint name her this cheesy to the max name. Its a silver Nissan model name -Sunny. no joke. pretty crazy. And to our dismay there are heaps of sunnys running around NZ. Sunny got us (with the help of Rachel) to Cardrona Ski Field in Wanaka -about an hours drive from Q-tip. i mean queenstown. Here, we were met with windy and cold, cloudy conditions. BUT it was an experience skiing in NZ! Who else can say they skiied in both hemispheres. thats a choice event. A little bit before lunch break the skies cleared up and we got some sunny skiing in before meeting up at the lodge with some other australearners for ... read more

- FOOD: A scrummy Indian Birthday treat meal - AREA: Gorgeous Wanaka with it's gorgeous lake and gorgeous mountains. Puzzling World to do your head in. Difficult drive to Queenstown. Ghost town of Te Anau. - PEOPLE: Snow boarders everywhere. Miserable staff in Te Anau (a first for NZ) - WEATHER: Sun for us in Wanaka, rain for us in Queenstown. Aug 15th: Lou stayed in a very nice ski lodge type hostel called the Purple Cow - it has a good reputation of being one of the best places to stay in and rightfully so. She had a room in an apartment with it's own kitchen, bathroom and lounge area. Her flat mates were 5 Japanese snow board queens who had been there about 2 months! We drove Lou up the mountain to the ski ... read more

On Thursday I decided it was about time to leave Qtown finally and go to Wanaka. The weather is not as good as yesterday, it's pretty overcast. On the way I visited the Coronet Peak ski field - today I could go all the way up without snow chains and enjoy the white soft snow. Maybe I should have stayed here longer and ski one or two days, well it's too late. The road to Wananka through the Crown Ranges is winding and steep, and as always the views around me are stunning. The road itself is stunning - at some points it winds down at the bottom of the river valley, as you can see in a picture I took while driving. Wanaka was cute as always but heavily overcast. I checked the forecast for ... read more

It's 3 weeks into the term now, and we've already been up to mischief. There's been rained out overnight tramp on the freezing west coast, a trip to Dunedin to help with our future career choices, a rock climbing comp and just general crazy behaviour!... read more

Hello from cold but sunny New Zealand! Had a bit of a shock when we landed in Christchurch in freezing cold rain. It's taken a while to work out just how many layers to wear at night in the campervan (and how many bottles of lovely NZ wine to drink) to avoid freezing to death. Haven't stopped since we arrived though. Went up to Kaikoura for whale watching (saw 4 sperm whales!) and swimming with the dolphins. You must think we're off our heads swimming in the sea when there is snow on the mountains, but after the initial shock and few seconds of hyperventilation, the dolphins helped us forget about being cold. We swam with a pod of 150 dusky dolphins and it was incredible. Getting out of the water wasn't much fun, but they ... read more

Apologies for the delay in updating - have been on the move for a while now and am getting behind. May have to do this in stages but here's the latest: Taupo - River Valley Because the weather was not so good on my third day in Taupo the walk I was supposed to go on was canceled and I had to hang around until the following day. Not such a bad thing - I caught up on some laundry and sleeping which were both sorely needed. The Tongariro Crossing is one of the country's 5 Great Walks, and the only one in the North Island; it came highly recommended, hence the decision to stay an extra two days rather than head off straight away. It is in the Tongariro National Park, about 2 hours drive ... read more
