Gem here again, Dave is busy putting photos onto previous blogs. Left Kaitaia thankfully a couple of days ago. Leaving a room that we woke up to find an army of ants trying to get from one side to the other and they we everywhere. Mentioned this to the hostel staff and the said thankyou, no apology or that they would sort this out. Did we also mention the glas, well due to the weather one of the doors glass blew through and there was glass everywhere, I cleaned up the inside and another guest put the temporary cardboard in to cover the whole. The owner Then after a quick hoover left the glass outside for tomorrow morning to clean up, and next morning when we left it was still there just prime for a kiddy ... read more

Had a fairly chilled day yesteday, walked out to the harbour bridge and out across to the middle of it (Don't think I need to do Cromer Pier now Dad!) Then went up the Sky Tower in the afternoon for some wicked 360 views of the city. Then sat in the highest cafe in the Southern Hemisphere and watched Liverpool v. Man utd. Wish I'd known it was nil nil before I started watching! Last day today :( But I do get to come back and see everyone :) and then go to uni! :) Going to take a ferry out to Waiheke Island today because it's meant be really pretty and nice beaches etc! Flying at 23.50 tonight or 12.50 for all you people in the UK!... read more

So much to add since I last managed to update! Travelled out from Auckland to Paihia. As a result of bad weather could not go out for any activities this afternoon, but Kiwi Exp found us a different opportunity at some hot mud pools. Was really relaxing and we were filmed by Kiwi at the same time, believe it will be for some new videos showing kiwi exp activities! Had an amazing day yesterday on a trip right up to the most Northerly point - Cape Reinga. Had to be careful up there, as it's a really spiritual Maori place where they believe their spirits will leave the island. This meant we were not allowed to walk on the very tops of any of the hills, as this is seen as disrespectful to the Maori who ... read more

Hi Gem here, Well yesterday was absolutely horrible weather the worst we have seen in this country since we started. Gails and constant rain, not very pleasant. It did lighten up a wee bit this morning and so we decided we would take the trip to cape reinga (can't think of right spelling) and ninety mile beach. The weather to start with lifted and was bright sunshine but quickly changed and started to pour down and the winds blowing the coach about. Funny thing was that everytime we got off the coach the subn came out and it stopped raining. Think the driver had a special wand or something. So we have stayed relatively warm throughout the whole day. We stopped off at several places, The ancient Kauri kingdom, Kauri being one of the largest known ... read more

NEW ZEALAND HAS NOT FAILED ME!! I am happy to report that I have faith in the Kiwi music scene after last week's musical events. I think i mentioned this before, NZ has a lack of live music. A typical night out consists of bad cheesy american pop/hip hop/ rock. OR there are those nights one jams out to baaaad techno euro trash music. OR- how bout this nightslubs/bars that advertise "Live DJ's"? what is that about, like there is an alternative- a 'dead dj?' c'mon! That being said..my quest to find Live real kiwi music has been sucessful. Last week I attended a concert at Old St pauls church in town- its the oldest church in welly- made entirely out of wood even the nailsa re wood! I saw the Nairobi Trio (really a quintet! ... read more

Today I went to the NPC Wellington Lions rugby match here at Westpac stadium, against Southland. Wellington has a good team, and southland is horrible, so we killed them. It was one try after another... For the first 30 minutes we had more points than minutes played. It was a slaughter... it almost got boring, then Southland scored a couple tries. I went to the game with Dan and Kam. It was fun, and very cold. I got back and tonight was the big election for Prime Minister. Haley wanted the Labour party to win, with Helen Clark. I think she is going to win but its not certain yet, it is very close. Haley also had a really cool idea...... using empty beer vessels to make legs for the beer pong table so it can ... read more

Hello all from a wet and miserable Sunday in New Zealand - today is Wellington at its worst so a good day to spend some time doing another blog. Our best news is that we've finally bought a car so we have a fair bit more mobility and freedom than we've had relying on our feet and public transport for so many months. We got a '96 VW Golf, which has only done 105,000 kms (65,000 mils), which is pretty low for 9 years. It was a private purchase and we spotted the problem with the exhaust when we test drove it (it basically needed a new one as there was a huge rusty hole in the muffler) but our inexperience with cars showed when we failed to spot the automatic transmission problem that meant it ... read more

Hi now in Paihia in the bay of islands and yesterday it was beautiful weather and today well it has gone somewhat downhill and has been raining. Staying in another YHA hostel, amazing room like a studio area with two double rooms attached, but there is noone booked in the other room at present and so we have it all to ourselfs. The only thing that would make it better is having a kitchen in it as well, as the shared one is tiny for the amount of people in the hostel at present. Got our own balcony with sea view and very clean place, again only for 8 pound a night! Enough about the hostel yesterday we took acruise of the surrunding coast with Kings cruises, fab scenery and got to see some dolphins and ... read more

Well, spa was fully booked, so am having one early tomorrow morning, nice full body massage! So instead tonight I have just seen Bay of Plenty Steamers vs North Harbour at the the Rotorua International Rugby Stadium (If you can call it a stadium) It's mainly terraces with one main stand. Was an amazing match, got to see Jonah Lomu acting as 'Water Boy' for his team (Harbour). Also, No one told me I was supporting the relegation/foot of the table strugglers! BOP are one place off the foot of the table! Arrive in Auckland tomorrow, circuit complete except for Bay of Islands.... read more
