Hey! Just a quick update! It was Mark's birthday on Wednesday, he has been working nights though so he slept til about noon, I got him tickets to see Crusty Demons - a bike show, daredevil kind of thing - in Feb. in Auckland! We just puttered around the house and went to town to renew his car insurance stuff - a little different than just renewing our license plate stickers, and then looked at vinyl for the bathroom and kitchen. I went to work with him in the truck and we had a pretty good time, until this grumpy man yelled at him over the radio! He had pulled out onto the road and there was this truck coming but he was a ways away, plus Mark's truck was empty and it can really giver ... read more

Hi!!! Just sitting at home watching a movie - ladder 49 (sad one!) while Mark is at work. Thought I would write down some things that I have learnt about NZ - mostly a lot of slang and how to talk the kiwi talk. lol. First, Kia Ora is a Maori greeting. The actual meaning is be well/healthy but ppl here say it as a "hey hows it going" kind of greeting sometimes. Often it's "Kia Ora Bro" lol "bro" is commonly used by the guys around here. Also, the way they say it is more like Kiora (Kee-or-a). I find that ppl here pronounce things much differently than we would sound them out. Mark says it is a bit of a lazy language - I just find it kind of speedy with the way they ... read more

Hello and Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful time bringing in 2009!!! So I haven't updated for a little while, here is what we have been up to! After Christmas Mark went back to work (day shifts) so I had some more time to myself! I went and signed up to the library around the corner on Parklands Street and actually met some of our neighbours - turns out two of our neighbors work at the library haha!! I didn't have any mail with me with my name and address on it so as I was filling out the forms they said I could bring something in later. I filled in the address and the one woman said "oh OK I can vouch for her" and then introduced herself as my neighbor, Jay. ... read more

Hello and Merry Christmas Eve from NZ! Just came on to post some pictures from yesterday and last night! I took some pictures of our house from the street and my little white Honda plus some of the grocery store etc to satisfy all the questions I've been getting about how similar/different things are here, as you will see things are really quite the same. Plus we were watching Forest Gump on TV last night and the whole room went pink and there was the most beautiful sunset so we raced down to the beach to take some pictures! Enjoy! And tomorrow is Christmas day for us here so I will say MERRY CHRISTMAS now because we will probably be busy most of the day! Mark is working the night shift tonight and will be home ... read more

So today I just have a little update: We had a pretty good weekend! Mark worked Friday but was home by 5 ish and then he needed a nap! Then we got ready and he took me out to dinner to Lonestar - which is one of the only really "Americanized" restaurants around. It was really yummy food but a bit pricey! I find that the prices are all higher than back home, you could pay like 12 $ for soup here lol or even more at fancy restaurants! Anyway, then ... read more

Hello again! So It's Monday afternoon here and its a rainy dreary day....Mark had to work today, at 4 AM!!! So I've been just hanging out home alone. Thought I would write and tell you about my weekend! Well, Friday night some of Mark's friends (Paul and Greg - aka "Cheese") stopped by and we had a couple of drinks and chatted. Then Mark was working with his uncle Stuart on Saturday doing the tile around the bathtub in the bathroom upstairs. It took them nearly all day so I just did some tanning and reading and also cut the lawn and did some weeding etc. His friends started showing up for the BBQ around 6:30/7 ish. So there was Paul and Cheese, Greg and his wife Jess and her sister Jenn and then Mark and ... read more
