We collected the twins from Polly’s then took then into New Plymouth, went down to see the wind wand on the seafront, a bit of shopping, and they created much excitement around the shopping centre, not least as the buggy is about 15 foot long!!! Was a good chance to check out down town, and the beach, and we also did some shopping and took in the bike shop once again, where I brought their entire supply of co2 cartridges, and we headed back home for a barbeque, where I ended up doing the cooking, which was good, nice to be eating some good quality food! ... read more

Since I've been back in New Zealand I have been mostly focusing on getting a job. Spending my days sending out as many resumes as I can. While the weather is cold (not really if you ask me!) it's been a nice change from Thailand's heat. It's been not very exciting. However, I had bought tickets to an All Blacks rugby game back in March. Pete and I planned a weekend away from Auckland to go see the game down in New Plymouth which is 5 hours south of Auckland. I met Pete at his work place on Friday and we set off after he finished. We drove down to Raglan and stayed there for the night. It was raining for most of the way and got dark so we didn't see much but I had ... read more

Mother F***ing car salesmen, tribunals and good friends! I must admit we weren’t looking forward to returning to New Plymouth for another two weeks, but had decided that we would probably suggest to Claire that we wouldn’t stay for that long as we had lost out on time due to the van. However as you will later read things didn’t quite turn out as we had planned and we did end up staying over two weeks!! Well as you may have guessed our van was still causing trouble into the New Year. It wasn’t going to be fixed until we could come to an agreement on who would pay. The car seller had offered us $200 towards the $1800 bill (as a good will gesture apparently - cheeky bastards) which wasn’t really ours to pay. Needless ... read more

New Year,…….still New Plymouth :( As some of you may be aware our campervan that broke down on Xmas eve was still sat in the same spot on the mechanics’ drive a week later on New Years Eve. We’d hoped some work would have been done, but what with there only being 2 working days between Xmas and New Year and even though our mechanic had done some work on these days no one else was open for spare parts / to help him. So after spending nearly the whole day researching everything from car hire to thumbing a lift we decided that our only option was to stay at Hearing Dogs again and forfeit all our great plans of spending new years eve at a beach party with Heather and Ben and then driving to ... read more

Well with Xmas day over the reality was beginning to set in that we were stranded in New Plymouth, and with the weather being unpredictable we were both suffering with feeling sorry for ourselves. Luckily on some of the sunnier days we got straight out to see what New Plymouth had to hold, the answer is, in our eyes at least, not a lot!! Boxing Day we decided to head to the local Puke Kuara Park (where they have the festival of lights we went to on Xmas eve) and go for a walk around the extensive grounds and see the little zoo we’d heard about - hey it was free so we figured why not. When we arrived we realised why it was free, because no one would pay to come and see only three ... read more

“Oh the weather outside’s delightful, But a BBQ lunch sounds frightful, We’ve got no other place to go, Let it glow let it glo, let it glow!” Wishing you all a warm festive Christmas from sunny New Plymouth, hopefully the snow has melted enough for you all to see family and stagger back from the pub! I know we are behind with our blog updates and they will follow once we come out the other side of our Xmas hang over, but for now, here is what we got up to on our Christmas Eve and Christmas day…………. Having just bought our new campervan a few days before, we collected it Xmas eve morning and packed up our stuff from the Hearing Dogs site. We were on the road by midday heading to spend our first ... read more

Hearing dogs New Zealand styley week 2 A little despondent that none of the campers were any good we started our second week of volunteering with some media coverage of our good deed. We didn’t really want to be in the local Taranaki midweekly paper but Clare insisted as it would be good publicity along side the fundraising money she was collecting from a local bank. The rest of the week was a bit more varied, with some visits to the dogs out in socialising to check on their progress. Each dog had its own little issues but two of the three really needed some more work. As usual some great and well meaning socialisers but some dogs that could have benefited with a bit more of a socialising programme. Nath spent the second week in ... read more

Hearing dogs New Zealand styley week 1 Wow the journey from Auckland to New Plymouth was a long one. Friends who live here had always said the distances look small but because the main roads are only small single carriageways everything goes a lot slower. Luckily the journey was on a beautifully sunny day and through some amazing scenery. The Taranaki Mountain regions are wonderful if not a little hair raising when your coach is driving round hair pin bends. We arrived into new Plymouth after 7 hours on the coach (it stopped at every tiny little town on the way - some weird places) and were immediately aware of the huge snow caped Taranaki Mountain in the distance and sea on the other side - not everyday you get both and this is something New ... read more

Let’s see…. Where did I leave off? Janelle and I spent two nights at that awesome hostel in Waitomo. On Saturday we walked the Waitomo Walkway. But don’t let the name mislead you- there is no “walkway” involved. It had been pouring the night before, and the trail was not much of one. It was the muddiest thing, and the path was hard to follow as some parts were under huge puddles of water and other parts were through cow pasture. It was beautiful, and totally worth it ((see pics on the fbook page)) but by the time we were done I couldn’t see my shoes at all, they were so covered with mud. That night we made a point to go get a hot, filling meal, since we had pretty much been living off spaghetti ... read more

Hello! It's been awhile but thats mainly because we haven't done any more exploring lately! But we did have Krithia and Melvin come and visit us so I thought I'd put the pictures up of that weekend. I also got a new tattoo! Its on my foot, of a pohutukawa flower. It's the New Zealand "Christmas Tree" because the flowers are red and the leaves are very dark green. The trees are beautiful especially when they are in bloom (which is right about now!) Not much else is new, but I would like to say Happy Birthday to my niece Bella who turns one on the 30th! As for our plans...Mark is looking at flights most nights and now has made up his mind, he is going to stay here until the 21st so he won't ... read more
