Hello again, I'm not sure I can upload any pictures from here as the internet is so weak. Seems I can send text at least for now. Yesterday we drove all the way around Mount Taranki. It's a dead ringer for Mount Fuji in Japan and Mount Hood in Oregon. We also tramped through 2 beautiful gardens, Pukeiti anf Hollard. I would dearly love to send pictures of the gardens and the mountain. If I can get a stronger signal I will at some time. We are looking forward to Wellington (Capitol) next week. Supposed to be a very beautiful city. On Dec 12 we will put our car on the large ferry to the south island. Everyone says the south island is more beautiful. I guess we will see soon. 24. Oktober 2012 Von Chateau Tongariro via Forgotten World Highway nach New Plymouth Frühmorgens (relativ! Hi,hi) Der erste Blick aus dem Fenster: Jaaa, das Wetter ist prächtig! Nach dem üblichen Reinigungszermoniel gehen wir feudal frühstücken. Wir brauchen ein gutes Polster, denn die Reise wird anstrengend sein, speziell für Rolf, unseren Driver. Die Strasse, die er ausgesucht hat, ist etwas für Abenteurer. Sehr kurvenreich, zum Teil nicht asphaltiert und vor allem sehr, sehr schmal, kreuzen nicht möglich. Nein wir reisen nicht gleich ab, wir wollen noch einen kurzen Spaziergang durch diese ganz besondere Landschaft machen. Vulkanisch geprägt eben. Und dann ist es endlich soweit: Ich darf den besonderen Satz schreiben: Wir reisen bei strahlendem Sonnenschein und einem tiefblauen Himmel zum nächsten Zielort.... New Plymouth:: Taranaki There's so much to do for visitors to New Plymouth and Taranaki and yet because it is a terminus, the end of a line- west coast of the North island, many tourists don't go. The weather was brilliant for the 3 days we spent here. Day one was spent on the coastal walkway that runs for 10 km stretching from the Port to Bell Block. We headed off past the port to climb Paritutu, one of the spines of lava pushed up from a volcano, then hit the sea quite literally in a lifeboat sailed by Happy Chaddy to explore the other two spines at sea : the Sugar Loaf islands dated to 1.75 million years. Today I took the time to visit a friend and buy some of his personally carved green stone necklaces to take with me and give to my hosts/hostesses in England, something uniquely New Zealands as a keepsake, a thank you for their kindness for opening their homes with me. For them I also bought some soap, made with Rotorua's mud and minerals and for the ladies also a Thermal mud pack each also. Some of Rotorua's finest. This amuses me greatly as one of the things I first had one of these fine English peeps on about was the average Kiwi diet. Where I waxed lyrical about how delicious (as well as other things) the huhu (beetle) grubs are, just poke around in some rotting wood, till you find these finger sized fat delicacies (by the ... read more
