Even after the big day i had yesterday i was feeling great. great clear morning but my worst fears, theres was still a really strong wind. the trip want gunna be easy. I farwelled my new friend and had to clime out of this place but that was the least of my problems. I road the 5k north to cape Reinga and with ease mind you because of a tail wind. the cape was really nice clear sky. It was about a 1ks walk to the light house so i road down there. It was amazing to see the clashing of the Tasman and the pacific oceans was a great sight. Some Mauri (native)people believe the cape is the jumping off point for the soul into the next world. So after a good look around i ... read more

It was a great feeling to be at Cap Reinga. Seeking where Tasman Sea and Pacific ocean meet is amazing. Maori says that one of them represent women and the other one a man. The feeling is incredible and the view also. Day was wonderful, sunny and warm. On the way back we stopped on 90 mile beach and done some sand surfing. We drove along 90 mile beach and that was also amazing but would not recommend those who do not have 4wd to go there. A road to get to the beach was very rough. There you go who ever goes to 90 mile beach should go by van, jeep or some other 4wds vehicles, otherwise it could be a bit tough. We are still in Kerikeri, found a job at bakery which is ... read more

Mike and I spent incredible time in New Caledonia. It was very sad to leave that beautiful island. People were very kind that they left good impression on us. I will definitely go back to New Caledonia if picking kiwis and oranges become successful business:))). Now a bit of arriving to New Zealand. It was so green and blue from the air plane when we were landing. The weather is absolutely beautiful, not hot and not cold, just an average temperature that suit everyone, I mean us:))). Mike and I arranged to buy a camper van from Buyback camper vans. We were a bit worried how that will work out at the end. Thankfully our worries were gone when we arrived. They waited for us at the airport with a camper van that we wanted. BuyBackCampervans.co.nz was ... read more

Hello all and welcome to my last blog! Can't believe it has been 9 weeks since I left the UK. In some respects it feels like a long time but it also feels like yesterday. So I arrived at Auckland airport and hadn't organised how I was going to get up to Paihia but I had realised that if I was going to make it back to Auckland in time for my flight on Saturday morning there was only one option - hire car! I booked it via the tourist information centre at the airport and requested a manual car which it turns out are cheaper - excellent news! The hire company aren't in the terminal but I only have to wait 5 minutes for them to come and pick me up. I know it was ... read more

Up for breakfast at around 07:30, another sunny day Breakfast is included in our package so we make the most of it. We also have a late check-out for 12:00, but being as we have the day planned we decide to check out early. We pack up the car and head off. Firstly we make for Kerikeri to look at he "Stone House" alongside the Kerikeri river. The house is the oldest stone building in NZ, and contains items that would have been bartered in earlier times such as blankets and muskets. We then head off to Haruru Falls, Gary and I were considering a walk from the falls back to the Waitangi Treaty House, but it will take about 2 hours and 40 minutes and we do not have the time to spare.Gary stopped at ... read more

A bus from Auckland brought me to the town of Pahia, in the Bay of Islands. This is very much a tourist location, but I found it to be quite lovely - far more relaxed than Queenstown. It was a hot, hot day (high twenties) when I arrived, and that didn't change for the four days I spent in the area. The first major activity for me in the Bay of Islands was a day cruise. There are lots of cruise options - catamarans, power boats, dolphin cruises, swim with the dolphins, tall ships, and kayaking (I've probably missed one or two). I choose a tall ship; the R. Tucker Thompson. After a short ferry ride from Pahia to Russell, I found myself watching the ship sail in and dock. About twenty of us boarded and ... read more

We are up at around 08:00, it is another gloriously sunny day.We packed an overnight bag and packing an overnight bag ready for our visit to the Bay of Islands and have breakfast. We had planned to set off at 10:00, but it was more like 11:00 when we set off on the SH1 heading north. We head in the direction of Whangerei (pronounced Fangerei in Maori- a bit like the doric at home in Aberdeen!). We stop off at "Hundterwassers Loo" on the way. These are public toilets in Kawakawa that were designed by an Austrian born artist and ecoarchitect Friedensreich Hundterwasser. These are the most photographed loo's in New Zealand. Lots of wavy lines decorated in mosaics and brightly covered bottles - bizarre!. We carry on for a while longer before stopping at Waipu (Pronounced ... read more

Hello lovely people at home and around the world! So far we've had 12 fantastic days here in Northland. We've stayed in a lot of wild and very beautiful places. Therefore there are only a few blogs, as internet access (or electricity) is not available where there is solitute and pure natural beauty. We've slowly driven up the east coast of northland and have seen some absolutely stunning beaches and walked in very tropical dense green bushland. The colours here are so intense (even short sighted me can see that!) it is amazing. As are the stars at night! When we arrived there was a full moon and it was so bright that we couldn't see many stars but now it is absolutely amazing. The milkyway in all its glory! The longer we look up the ... read more

If I thought I was drinking too much in Auckland it was nothing compared to the Bay of Islands. This was the place I met Andreas and Charlie (the Swedes). Travelling on the bus, I look to my right and see Andreas taking a few swigs from his Whiskey bottle. I knew these two days were going to be tough. On the trip we stopped off at Goat Island and took a see through floor boat around to take a look at the local sealife which was fun, but lasted 45 minutes which was too long. It was free as it was part of the bus pass. I must admit I didn’t do much at all in the Bay of Islands. First night I got drunk and the following day I just sat on the beach ... read more

I took quite a psychological risk last night. I had verified on Friday night that when people played the DVD in Cap'n Bob's common room, it now really hurt my shoulder even if the piece didn't have drums. I'd finally gone out on Friday and begged them to turn it off, and they had. Anyhow, I decided to write a little note and put it on the DVD explaining the situation. I did, and I signed it and put my room number. Now, the last time I chose this method of trying to solve a problem was back in 1983, when I was staying with a bunch of other teenaged workers while doing a summer job. That attempt just got me laughed at by everyone else in the barracks. But something had to be done ... read more
