Today is, umm, hmmm, i think it's wednesday 30th, or it could still be tuesday, then again it could be thursday, pheweee, that 20+ hour flight really buggered up our body clocks. We arrived in Auckland at 11am on Tuesday and we had had about 5 hours sleep over the 2 days of travel as neither of us can sleep on a plane, so we were a bit messed up to say the least! I arrived in Auckland. I might have well arrived home, in the airport even before the baggage claim a lovely lady behind a stand offers you a free cup of tea or coffee. First thing in the morning after a long nights flight this is just what is needed. So I wandered through immigration and baggage reclaim sloshing my near scolding tea across my hands, baggage and pristine clean floor. I caught a bus down town to the Auckland Central Backpackers. Met a couple from Cardiff/Isle of Wight as I got off the bus they were on their way to the ACB as well. This was the trip that started the travel madness. E had won a prize from Ansett Airlines to go anywhere in Australia, and one from Air New Zealand to go anywhere on their network. Then Ansett went broke, and Air New Zealand said they would honour the prize with a trip to any destination in NZ. We were saving up to go to Gallipoli in Turkey for Anzac Day, so we were not interested in spending a lot, so decided to travel to Auckland for the Australia Day long weekend. ... read more

In August 1999 I departed Australia for a 4 week trip around the globe. Countries visited included New Zealand, the USA, Canada, Ireland, England, Denmark, Hong Kong and Singapore. The purpose of the trip was to have a look at international Australian football first hand. This was accomplished by attending some matches and meeting some of the key people in each country. Matches attended included the Auckland Lightning Premiership, the Canadian, British and Danish grand finals, and Singapore v Malaysia in Singapore. DAY 1 - SATURDAY 21st AUGUST I Departed Brisbane on Friday 20th August at 7.15pm, arriving in Auckland at 12.15am.
