Today we arrived in Auckland, Zealand!!!! After a 3.5 hour flight from Melbourne, we landed in Auckland, New Zealand. NZ is the furthest point from anywhere and we couldn't believe we were here. After an uneventful customs exit, there was Jared greeting us!! It was so good to see my buddy Jared after not seeing him for over 6 years since living in NYC! Oh, the days of Hell.... As we left the airport, we headed to Jared's home to quickly unpack and catch the afternoon ferry to Waiheke Island. At the Port, we met Jared's boyfriend Nephi!! As the weekend progressed I learned Nephi was my long lost "brown sista"! Nephi is Maori and one of the most genuine loving people we have met! The ferry ride to Waiheke Island (aka "Island of Wine" or ... read more

Waiheke Ferry Across Hauraki Gulf Monday morning Jeremy gave us a ride into Auckland on his way to work. We stopped by New Zealand Telecom to pick up a cell phone and then headed down to the wharf to grab the ferry. We loaded up our backpacks and got our tickets and climbed up on the top deck to get a view of the different islands in the gulf along the way. We passed Rangitoto Island which one of the last volcanoes to erupt in New Zealand. It's now a preserve and you are limited to day trips or very limited overnight camping we hope to get back and see it sometime. After arriving on the island, we took a bus to our hostel and settled in. There we met another Canadian from B.C , an ... read more

At my 2nd day here in Auckland, me and my mom planned to go to Waiheke Island today. We woke up at around 9 AM, and my mom brought our food before we left the hotel. We walked all the way to the ferry terminal, which is in Quay Street, and we were able to see other landmarks in Auckland, like Britomart. At the ferry terminal, we bought 2 return tickets, including a tour of the island. We left at 11 AM, and I and my mom decided to sit at the upper deck of the ferry, which we thought was a bad idea. As the ferry got faster, the wind also got colder & stronger, leaving us freezing (but at least the views were good). We were able to take pictures, as we saw the ... read more

September 2009 We're not quite in summer yet but temperatures are definitely up and we have had some beautiful days of sunnyshine like the day Lisa and I caught the ferry from downtown to Waiheke Island for a coastal walk then lots of wine in the sun at Cable Bay vineyard- which was a blissful day. I have also just moved to the beach - Mission Bay which will be fantastic when summer proper arrives. I am loving my new neighbours - Mike and Gary the identical twins. Great place this!! I also have a big verandah - perfect for all those BBQs I plan :) Given the better weather I have started mountain biking at the nearby forests and running along the beach front but keep missing the dolphins that every other single person that ... read more

We perhaps had consumed too much wine the previous night opening the ceremonial opening of the eye lids. It turned out that Claire missing the bottom stair last night was a product of 2 ½ bottles of red wine and champagne. My immediate thoughts were of self preservation and the likely ensuing tirade of Claire for that day hung over. However - she despite still feeling flu like was a star. In true fashion, we cut the ferry fine leaving the house at 9.45 for a 10am ferry. This resulted in a minor 100m jog down the hill as we seen the ferry approaching from afar. This did not go down well with Claire, however we made it and off we were going for a proper tourist day trip. Our destination - chosen during the 20 ... read more

Auckland, New Zealand. New Zealand the extreme sport capital of the world. Where people travel from all over the world to jump out of planes and throw themselves off of tall buildings. So what would Gifton do on his first post jet lag day in New Zealand? Well the options are plentiful here in Auckland. I could SkyWalk, or even jump off the SkyTower. Maybe some canyoning, skydiving, white water rafting or even river sledging. The adrenalin sports are readily available. So this morning I made my decision. None of those sports for this guy, but a wine tasting on an island outside of Auckland. So At 11 am I found myself on a ferry in the south Pacific sunshine pulling away from the Auckland skyline. The ferry ride was beautiful as we cruised away from ... read more

Hi all Kia Ora!! Maori for be well...and indeed we are. The flight from Sydney to Auckland was quick and painless, two things that Sharron particularly likes in air transportation!! It took just 2 1/2 hours plus another 2 hours on the clock and so we were soon in the Worlds natural adventure playground New Zealand... Met by Anna Claire (daughter of Richard Seton) and whisked off to catch a ferry and then a taxi to Richard and Angelas island home on Waiheke....sounded good to us!! The welcoming party greated us as we rounded the drive to face the fabulous bay of Waikopu....Richard, Angela, Peter & Wendy (also from the uk) Juno the Highland Terrier and his friend Nobu...largest cat on the island!!! We had a great few days; fishing, swimming, wine tasting, jet skiing walking ... read more

Kiwi Burn was magic. Almost ridiculously so. The magic started on the journey there when Roey and I stopped off on the way at a friend's house who lives on a festival site which previously was a plant nursery and so is full of magical mature trees and wooden stages and structures. I got really high and wandered around mesmerized by it all, tapping in to all the different energies and feeling so overwhelmed at how wonderful it is to be so sensitive and have that sensitivity heightened through weed and then NOT be in a city like London but be out in the bush and able to tap into everything and really feel it. On the way there I had a conversation with Rowena in which I told her about my love for miniature things ... read more

Well I havent made a blog since ive made it. Have been here on Waiheke Island since October 1st 2008, absolutely beautiful here. Certainly not what i'm use to. Hot weather most of the time i have been here, white beaches, great food and atmosphere. From one island to another to another; New Caledonia is the next stop. My sister is in Noumea with her husband and my new nephew which i am excited to see since i haven't seen them in almost 8 months. Going there for 2 weeks then coming back to New Zealand for 13 days then back to Newfoundland. Where will I be after that? Who knows? ... read more
