NZ day 26 & 27 Muriwai Beach & Auckland Well it would seem we timed our run down to Paihai very well- they must have closed the road soon after we went through- pretty close. Before we left I went down to the gentle stream & took some more photos- it had dropped at least 2 metres overnight, but was still running very fast. So a quick drive back through the town so that we could actually see the Bay of Islands, & we were on our way south, but over to the west coast to a little place called Muriwai Beach. This is where the Gannets (birds) breed, on a very windswept rock & cliff. They are a strange bird....well have a strange life. They breed here & as soon as they are strong enough ... read more

Landing in Auckland we were without doubt the two most happy excitable backpackers on the planet! We had enjoyed Oz but had been craving a new challenge - so we were more than ready to get our teeth tucked into Kiwi country!! First stop was New Zealand's largest city - Auckland. After arriving late the previous night we were up bright n breezy to go and pick up our new campervan. Wow - this was a belter, spray painted from tip to toe in the smurfs! After driving about town looking super cool in our new abode we went for a wonder around the city centre. Apparently Auckland gets a pretty bad rap from most visitors but we thought it was not too shabby! After taking a few wrong turns we ended up in the beautiful ... read more

After a long research I finally have found the perfect blog for me :) Starting from today on, I will be keeping you all readers updated regarding our big trip to Asia. The countdown really started its only 30 days left till our flight to Singapore. We are still waiting for 2 of our visas: Russian and Mongolian. Unfortunately Russian visa is quite a hassle and quite stressful to deal with. If you ever thought about going there re-think it, especially if you don’t have family over there. You need to prove everything in advance, place where you stay(also pay full amount for everything in ADVANCE!!) what you are planning to do and where, proves of all payments, voucher, confirmation etc. so yes it is not easy but I hope it will be worth the effort ... read more

We left the South Island in search of warmer weather and hoping to make it to Cape Reinga in our wicked van! After the ferry across the Cook Straits we stopped in Wellington where we spent the night in a local bar trying different beers and playing pool. We went to the Te Papa museum which was really good and free entry which is always a bonus! We went to a Saturday market in the city and bought a few gifts for people at home. Then we moved on stopping at Hastings and Napier before arriving at Lake Taupo. We saw the Huka falls and went prawn fishing which we both found really funny although somewhat addictive! There actually is a technique to catching them, which surprised me and Adam didn't let me forget it because ... read more

Hi guys! we're finally here in auckland after 3 planes and 24 hours of travelling! We checked into our first hostel and had a private room to help us sleep well to get over the jet lag (probably the nicest room we'll see for a while!). Had a wander around the city on our first day where we probably saw most of the city in about 2 hours then ended up in bed by 6.30pm and slept for over 12hours! Monday we had a look round all the parks and did ALOT of walking (10km - the most Becki has ever walked in one day!) We went to what we assumed was a casual park cafe, drenched and not looking too great, but it turned out to be a posh restaurant serving 'high tea'. After getting ... read more

Still in Auckland. Just been seeing the sights and sounds of the City. The weather's been a bit hit and miss, but then i have my camper van so there's alway shelter!! I'm loving it! It's running really well. I drove it over to Waiheke Island, and stayed over there for a few days. It's a really nice place. I visited a couple of wine Orchards. It's so handy been able to just pull over and sleep in the van! I think i'l stay a couple more days, and then move on. ... read more

28th February – 14th March 2011 We arrived in Wellington by ferry and found our hostel in the centre of the city. We had decided that we wouldn’t spend too long in the capital as we had plans for the rest of the North Island, so an overnight stop and a drive by of the main attractions it was! That evening, after a wander down by the harbour, a couple of drinks and a food court dinner we hit the sack. The alarm went off early the next morning so we could get a cheeky run in before checkout and we then headed north towards Napier. Napier was flattened by an earthquake in the 1930’s and rebuilt in an Art-Deco style which remains to this day. It is most famously known for being the heart of ... read more

Ok... I just told a little white lie. I'm not actually in Auckland as of yet. I am still in the U.K. I will however be in Auckland within a couple of days! My plan is to Arrive in Auckland and travel the rest of the country in a camper van! I don't have much time, so i can't afford to waist time buying or selling for a camper van in Auckland. I want to get out of Auckland as soon as possible. So the way i have chosen to do this is using a company that Smithy recommended to me called buy back camper vans, you buy the van off them and they pick you up from the airport in it, then buy it back off you after you've finished, it works out cheaper than ... read more

Hey guys.............. Im so sorry this is brief.......but I have only 20 minutes left of the internet and in New Zealand.....it is so expensive. So we have visited Auckland, Rotorua, Taupo, Napier and wellington in the North Island and Picton, Nelson, Franz Josef, Fox Glacier, Wanaka, Queenstown and Christchurch on the south island......all in the space of 3 weeks!!! It has been mental and a tiny bit of a rush!!! My favourite place was probably Queenstown and Taupo. We have been white water rafting, met up with Jann who I went to uni with and havent seen for 2 years which was amazing, we went to a Maouri experience, where we saw the Haka and saw a performance of singing and dancing and saw geysers and hot mud pools, we have also been swimming in natural ... read more
