90 mile beach near Cape Reinga We left the South Island in search of warmer weather and hoping to make it to Cape Reinga in our wicked van! After the ferry across the Cook Straits we stopped in Wellington where we spent the night in a local bar trying different beers and playing pool. We went to the Te Papa museum which was really good and free entry which is always a bonus! We went to a Saturday market in the city and bought a few gifts for people at home. Then we moved on stopping at Hastings and Napier before arriving at Lake Taupo. We saw the Huka falls and went prawn fishing which we both found really funny although somewhat addictive! There actually is a technique to catching them, which surprised me and Adam didn't let me forget it because he caught more than me! We walked around the "craters of the moon" too which was quite strange, it looked like the land before time! We had a couple of really good nights out in Taupo, one night we found a bar that said free BBQ at 7.30pm so we had a look and stayed there for 9 hours! We managed to get back to

Where the Tasman Sea meets the South Pacific the camp site, care of the bar manager who's rent we had paid in 1 night's drinking! We had a drunken craving for mash potato and gravy so off Adam went peeling spuds and doing his best to cook in the dark and as quietly as possible at 5am on the camp site!
In Rotorua we did the "Maori experience" which is an evening meal made in the traditional Hangi way (although I'm not sure trifle is traditional!) and then a show which included a Haka. From there we went to Hamilton and met my cousin and her family and got a few tips on where to go/ what to see. We managed to get to Cape Reinga and on the nicest day we've had so far! The weather was great and there's a fantastic view from the light house of the Tasman sea and South Pacific Ocean meeting. We spent the night at Spirits bay and got eaten alive by sand flys- the only thing I really don't like about New Zealand!!
We drove back down through the North Island, stopping for a few nights at D.O.C sites before we gave the van back in Auckland. We
were a little sad to say goodbye to it, although the feeling didn't last long- when we got a hotel room with a kettle, double bed, T.V and toilet all was forgotten! I would definately reccommend seeing New Zealand in a campervan but I did miss electricity!
At Auckland we did a Sky Jump from the Sky tower! The most scary thing I have ever done but the best buzz I've had in a while and not bad seeing as though I am shit scared of heights!! We treated ourselves to a meal there in the evening which was our final night in New Zealand!
