Okay...so you never got the story to go along with the photos from the last few journals. I still may attempt to add some text, but perhaps not. All apologies. Here are some more photos from a short stay in Melbourne, the beginnings of the GRO tour and some additional GRO pics. I missed my first flight on Friday night because I miscalculated my flight time (brilliant!) but made up for in on Saturday when I arrived...... read more

After arriving in Sydney, we had the pleasure of joining Stuart Kirkwood and family at their lovely home for a barbeque. We first met Stuart when he and "A" were working in Hong Kong. His children Rochelle and Bradley use to come play dress up with the girls. (Sure wish we had the pictures…but they would probably kill us if we posted them!) Stuart, Karen, Rochelle and Bradley were awesome hosts and we thoroughly enjoyed their company. Our hotel was right across the street from the famous Manly Beach. "j" and Dad took surfing lessons and are now gnarly surfer dudes (almost). No we didn’t see a single great white shark. The ferry ride from Manly Wharf into Sydney Harbor is incredible and we enjoyed walking around Circular Quay and Darling Harbor. We toured the world ... read more

What a wild weekend we had. The IIclipsal automobile race, which is similar to the Indy 500, was taking place just near our flat. I knew the streets would be crowded but I didn’t expect the people to get so out of hand. For the sake of decency I will not share all of our weekend events and the behaviors of intoxicated Aussies but I will say that I have never seen such delinquency. A tame example includes Friday night. The three of us (Amber, Kameron and myself) were sitting in our lounge (living area) having a conversation when Amber shouts “Oh my God!” with a stricken face. I look across to our balcony and a man is standing outside our wide open screen door staring in at us. This happened at 8 p.m. on the ... read more

Before flying to Singapore to meet with Steve and Chris, I had just under three weeks to blast up the East coast of Australia. My first stop was Melbourne, and after visiting, this is one city that I'm disappointed because I don't really think that I got the most out of it. Almost, everyone I had met really enjoyed Melbourne, but I had a kind of lethargy about me when I was there and didn't come away having had all that good a time. That said, my very fortunate (and unplanned) timing meant that the Grand Prix was in town during the four day window in which I rocked up, and so I headed along to that to watch it. The race was pretty good, but nowhere up to the standards of a day out at ... read more
