After a lot of indecision I have finally chosen the destination of my next adventure. I chose this region of the world for a number of reasons the first being the shining review it got from Arthur a Melbourne lad I met in Cappadocia (Turkey) a few years ago. The second because war is a disaster when it comes to preserving a nations historical sites (Afghanistan, Kuwait and Iraq showed the world this) and this region is likely to become even more of a hotspot in the months to come, so I wanted to get in before the American or Israeli bombs. In seven weeks I plan to experience the best the Persian Gulf has to offer visiting UAE, Oman, Yemen, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar and ofcourse Iran. Saudi is out as it is the most difficult ... read more

wow! So many things to tell you!! I can't beleive I've seen and done so much in 3 days! So we took this 3 and a half day tour with Outback Safaris and our tour guide wanted to be called Chief :p The 3 1/2 day is really the best one to take basically because it gives you time to see evertyhing without being on a rush! we saw all the others groups rushing to do everything while we could actually have time to avoid the crowds which was great for all the walks we had to do! Day 1: Alice-Kings Canyon...Bus bus bus... day 1 was basically going to kings Canyon for our first night stop...Got there around 7:30pm....Our campsite was basically a fire pit and...that was it :p While Chief was cooking dinner, we ... read more

Hello readers! I've actually got a few messages from people and that's always encouraging. It is so much easier to do things when you know people are actually reading and/or expecting an update. Nothing's really happened; I'm only updating so people don't think I've died or been abducted by some crazy kangaroo. I was poking about for a job and what I thought was the perfect job appeared...a polo trainer! Now, I don't know the slightest bit ab out Polo, but I know and love horses. The guy was really nice and actually came and picked me up for the interview. The interview was actually just me "getting" to ride a horse! It started off with me tacking up the horse and my pride swelled a bit because I got my horse bridled much faster than ... read more

Hi folks. We have just completed a week here in Sydney and have tried to pack as much as possible into that time. Sydney really is a wonderful city. Both bigger and much busier than either Adelaide or Melbourne We arrived here via the overnight train from Adelaide. Unfortunately neither of us slept very much so we were pretty shattered when we arrived. For the first time on our travels we hadn't booked accommodation ahead of our arrival. It proved to be of little consequence as we found a pretty OK place very near the central station which is reasonably situated for travelling about the city. The only drawback according to Ken is that he somehow has got lemmoned to sleep on the top bunk! We have done ALL the usual touristy things: The Hop on- ... read more

Oceania » Australia » New South Wales » Byron Bay March 20th 2006

Due to the fact we are finding living in Byron very difficult and extremely stressful (with a hint of sarcasm) we have been forced to stay here for another week, oops?! With surf shops every 10 steps along the high street and ever man and his dog being able to surf we feel a little inadaqeut in that depatment, so with a little help form Natasha and Joanna (german girls) they hooked up some boards from the hostel so we could improve our wave riding skills. A bigger board than the one I had in Bondi made life a little easier but the rip in the ocean was incredibly strong and made it very hard to get back out the waves in order to get the much needed practice. I was up first time though and ... read more

Friday was Paddy's Day and to celebrate we headed to Bridie O'Reilly's on Chapel. This is where I went last year and had a fantastic time. However, this year was a little different. They played no Irish music at all except for a few token David Gray tracks, and had a really BAD U2 cover band playing for the night. So there was no Irish dancing, in fact not much dancing at all. Had a bit of fun but it was certainly no match on last year.... read more

Well after a 5 hour flight to vancouver, 6 hours to hawaii, and 10 hours to sydney we're finally here. The kids were very well behaved during the flight, we bribed kirk and wes with pokemon cards. There was alot of turbulance a hour or 2 out of sydney, and this morning i found out that a huge typhoon (huricane) hit the northern part of australia, we're going to be in that area in 2-3 weeks. They've issued warnings for the areas hit to look out for snakes and croc's as they've had a rough night. We arrived at 7 am local time (3 pm toronto time) so basically 25 hours of travel. The kids are sleeping now, and when they get up we'll go check out some of the local sites. Report more tomorrow ! ... read more

We left before the hurricane; in fact it happened during our international flight home. Remember that day we lost on the way? Got it back now and we got 2 Sundays this week. How often does that happen? We landed in Cairns (another time zone) and was told there had been a meter of rain and the roads to Cape Tribulation which we were scheduled to go to by bus had been flooded. As we arrived so did groups who had been stuck there for 4 days, those who chose to wait it out instead of catching a helicopter out. So to err on the side of caution we changed our tour to a 1 night tour instead. We drove up to Cape Tribulation through a road cut out of the rainforest with only a ... read more

Having regained our energy Sara and me hit the bar this evening. Meeting up with some of the people she'd met earlier in her trip. Crazy Dancing and the usual cheesey music meant a long night of boogie-ing. We headed from our hostel to Beaches Bar for more cheese and boogie. When Sara and I found ourselves as the only people remaining on the dance floor at 2.30 we decided to head home. The boys from our hostel decided to navigate. Badly. "Boys, this is the wrong way" I cried "No its not, little blonde girl, as if you'd know" Matt replied. Fine see ya in a few hours. So sara and I headed home the right way and awaited the head-hung return of the foolish followers of matt. Matt was made to walk home with ... read more
