Well I started my fifth, yes fifth, job on Monday working as an IT technician in a hospital, finally something that I can do! Let me take you on a wander through my oh so brief Australian working history. When we landed in Perth we sent our CV's out to loads of agencies hoping to get temporary work. We knew it would be far easier to get work in the hospitality trade but we wanted to try and get Mon-Fri, 9-5 first so we could still enjoy our weekends together. So we sent out our CV's and I got a couple of calls to come in and meet with agencies who promised the world but who still havn't delivered. Then Fiona gets a job, we went to visit Lara at her work which happens to be ... read more

Well it’s been a while since I’ve written in here, so what’s been going on I here you ask? We moved in to a nice apartment in South Perth, it’s across the water from the city but it only takes seven minutes on the ferry or 10 minutes by bus from outside our door. South Perth is a nice spot, a leafy suburb with loads of mega expensive apartments and condo type affairs, there’s loads of restaurants, three pubs and loads of wee café’s and trendy coffee shops. I’ve worked in most of these places but that’s another thread entirely…… We’re moving towards winter here and it’s getting pretty wet, it doesn’t rain often, twice a week or so, but when it does rain it comes down in style I tell thee. It’s never really cold, ... read more

tie me Kangaroo down. I've not much to add to these photo's, there primarily for my goddaughter Rebekah, newphews Ross, Callum, Connor and Cameron, but feel free to enjoy them. These were taken from Frank and Lara's house up in the country, it's about an hour away from Perth but like an other world, it's amazing, nothing around, about 5 houses share 50 acres of land and there's plenty of 'bush' surrounding all the plots. I spotted these 'Roo's about 4pm on Saturday, there was about 40 of them, they only come out to feed around sunrise and sunset and we were driving home from Bayswater, when we pulled into Frank and Lara's house we spotted them. I got out the car and sneaked up to the fence of the neighbours property where they were graving ... read more

Our week around the Perth area. Yippee! We have arrived in Perth WA! Wow it’s so gorgeous here! Sun, sun, sun, everyday, coupled with Perfect endless beaches we really do feel like we have found paradise! When we arrived here we felt great ‘cause due to our Singapore stopover, no jet lag! So after Auntie Pam picked us up, it was straight down to the beach to catch a golden West Australian sunset! Tuesday we caught the train (which runs down the middle of the motorway) into the big city. We took one of those open top buses around the city and up to Kings park (the biggest city park in the world) and then caught the ferry across to the zoo. Wednesday we spent the day catching waves at Scarborough (not the uk one!) Thursday ... read more

This is more what I'm used to, partisan atmosphere, hostile crowd, there's no love lost between these cross-town rivals. As I mentioned in the last post both these teams play at the Subiaco Oval which is in the trendy East Side of Perth, it's a real nice area with loads of bars, restaurants, boutiques, whatever tickles your fancy can be found in Subi really. The Eagles are based here, it's where they train, have offices etc, it's really there home ground in my book but it's owned by the council, the Dockers play there home games here but train down in Fremantle at their own Oval and are based in the seaside town. From start to finish it was more like a football game that I'm used to, loads of shouting at the opposition, songs, threats ... read more

I’ve finally found something to take way my craving for football, and it is…………. Footy, Aussie Rules Style!! Perth has two AFL teams, the West Coast Eagles, and the Fremantle Dockers. I chose to support the Eagles as they last won the cup in ’94 like my beloved Dundee United, they’re also the closest team to us as although both team share the Subiaco Oval for match days, the Eagles are based there and the Dockers are down in little Italy, a.k.a. Freo, where Fiona works, some 20KM’s away from the City. Anyway, the season started last week and the Eagles were away to Adelaide, with my support behind them, via the TV, they won in South Australia for the first time in 10 years, my support being the only difference to the previous games, so ... read more

April Fools' Day 2005, Pete and Sarah arrive in Australia. We very quickly got into the Aussie lifestyle after meeting Sally; we were in the spa drinking beers very quickly. On Saturday we went out for Sally's birthday, which was the next day, and pretty much as soon as we woke up on Sunday hair of the dog was suggested (and accepted) and all the blokes and soon the girls were drinking again in the hot Perth sun. That evening we had a barbie with Kangaroo steaks, of course drinking pretty much all day. Then until thursday myself and Sarah very much enjoyed the garden and weather at Sally and Jamie's place by sunbathing and alternately doing some weblogging when it got too hot. Sufficiently relaxed and recharged after the stress of selling the van, later ... read more

Well I finally got around to adding some text, apologies and that but we've been so busy. I don't know what we've been doing 'cos I don't feel like we've done much in the last fortnight but you'll have to trust me, I have been busy, and if I keep telling myself that then I'll hopefully stay out of the rat race that is getting a job. Anyway on to the story, are you sitting comfortably? Then I'll begin...... We met Andrew and Marina at Lara and Frank’s party on Saturday, and despite the impression that we made they still invited us on a boat trip to Carnac Island. They were entertaining clients, they're in the Oil and Gas business, and had room for us on board, quite frankly they had room for a small army ... read more

We've had a real busy time so far in Perth, we've been setting up bank accounts, going in the spa, getting tax numbers, going in the spa, applying for loads of jobs, going in the spa, trying to get our bearings around Perth all while trying to have the occasional dip in the spa, it's a hard life after all, I don't think we though out this year hard enough, who'd of known it would be so tough? Anyway today was a day to relax, Frank and Lara were having a BBQ with a few choice friends to show us off, and all the work they'd done on the house but I think it was more about us, we're special don't you know? We had a great night, met loads of great people and stayed in ... read more

Well we left Sydney this morning for the 5 hour flight to Perth, WA is also 3 hours behind Sydney so we landed two hours after we took off, sweet. We were sad to leave Sydney, it's the best city we've ever been to do but we're determined to see as much of this vast country as we can but are defo going to spend another week or two in Sydney at the end of out time is Australia, we fly out of Sydney to Korea in August at any rate. We nearly missed our flight this morning, we slept is as I set the alarm for the wrong time and woke up at 8am, our flight was at 09:30 but you only need 30 minutes check-in for internal flights here, just as well. We got ... read more
